Sorry for being so ignorant but how exactly do you mute the last string?

which string? the low E or high e?

the low one is muted with your middle or ring finger (just feel for it.)

the high e is muted by...well...your hand. hah

The low E is considered the last string, is it not?

I use my pinky and pointer finger to fret the strings being played and the middle finger to mute the top strings.

just put ur fingers in the right position...4-pinky on the 10, and 1 pointer finger on the 8..and just relax ur middle finger on the low e...and the rest of ur hand will mute the high e

I don't play this song too often, but I play it like this below. I mute the low E with the tip of my index finger. I think it's an easier mute.

Intro
E:--------------------------------------
B:--------------------------------------
G:--------------------------------------
D:-15\--15--13--12--13--12--13--
A:-13\--13--13--10--10--10--10--
E:--x----x----x----x----x----x---x----

The notes don't ring when you play it this way, but at least I don't have to worry about accidentally hitting the low E.

either way, wen u are playing notes really close to the low e, u have to worry about it even tho u dont have to......the way u play , on the 13 nd 15, ur figners are bunched together so it may hurt after a while, if ur new at playing,nd u cant as easily mute the lower e....just go with the regular way dave does it..it may b trickt but after a while, ull get it...ive ben playing for 6 nd 1/2 years...wen i first started, i couldnt even play jimi thing...and thats a hard song...it sounded like shit..also, im self taught..now 7 years later, i can play every dave song perfectly...u just need patience, and a comfortable feel for the notes...wenever dave plays, he makes the notes comfortable for him. despite captain..nd, dave makes his music to match his techniques..muting nd rhtythm...everything takes time..ull get it
