don't drink the water (help)

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

don't drink the water (help)

Unread post by waffle_house_jam » Wed Nov 06, 2002 9:14 pm

ive taken a look at a lot of tab for this song, and there are a couple problems. first of all, i hate drop-d tuning, so does anyone know a way to play it without screwing with alternate tunings? also, the tab seems really simplistic. i know that in the studio it was probably just the droning background, but as i recall stuff like the Storytellers concerts it seems like there were a lot more changes. am i right or was that just Tim's solos?
any help would be appreciated...

I'm pretty sure what you see is what it is. It's a pretty simple song to play chordwise. If you can remember the lyrics, your set. You'll get better at tuning down to drop-D over time. tune it down so that when you fret it at the 7th fret, its the same as the open A string.

Ken "gravedigger" told me this trick and it has been smooth sailing since.. Thanks again for the help... But I can go from drop D to standard without blinking now... Peace

5th fret on low E=open A (standard tuning)
7th fret on low E=open A (drop D tuning)
Gravedigger knows his stuff :P

The song is quite simple, on storytellers he changes it up a bit more to accompany the effects Tim uses.

Also, remember when you are in Drop-D the low string will be one octave below the 4th string (D string). So 12-fret on 6-string = 0-fret on 4th string.

Remember:

1st String = e
2nd String = B
3rd String = G
4th String = D
5th String = A
6th String = E

I have a question, what does Dave play at the "Now as I rest my feet by this fire...." part of the song, I've tried everything from the tab on the site and nothing sounds right. Also, the thing that jkanter calls the "cool fill," where does Dave play that? Thanks.

Good Tip, Pilot.

Levi, Just go back and forth with these two.

E:--------------------------2
B:--------------------------3
G:-7---7-------------------4 (hit this chord on "Upon these poor souls....)
D:-5---7---x3, then this--4
A:-5---5-------------------2
D:-5---0------------------

I think this'll help.
