So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Dave's action courtesy of DMB's Road Crew

Unread post by c_tietze » Mon Aug 08, 2005 8:51 am

Someone asked a while back about Dave's guitar action, here is the reply from DMB's Road Crew ( I sent them an inquiry via email)

The action is medium high. I say about a 1/4 inch of the fret
board.

they didnt give any reasoning? I guess it is so he can mute those crazy mutes he does,

but playing something like

G 10
D x
A 8
E 10

it seems like you would always be muting the A string with higher action.

I've noticed Dave hits the notes pretty hard too, he has bigs hands and long fingers so it really tends to fit w/his overall style.

I'm just suprised the Road Crew responded so quickly, I emailed them about 3 weeks ago.

His hands aren't ginormous, he just frets it right. No extra long fingers needed, just good flexiblity and strength.

Come on, don't try to opposite, take a peek at his hands and take into consideration his height. He's a tall, lanky man with long(ER) fingers than most of us.

Strength and flexibility come with years of proper practice, this is why beginners and people that don't have longer fingers, strength and flexibility may choose a low action setup.

That's a really shitty reply...

If that's the action measured at the 12th fret, and Dave is using medium gauge strings...then that bastard has some monster hands...
