One Sweet World???
Is the tab on here for OSW the same as he plays on the luther college disc? I have the book and it's nothing similar.

Re: One Sweet World???
This site has all the correct tabs for all of Dave's songs. those books don't show how Dave plays them.gvsu_guitarfreak wrote:Is the tab on here for OSW the same as he plays on the luther college disc? I have the book and it's nothing similar.

I would take every single tab book ever written(that I have seen) on a Dave Matthews song, throw it on the ground and take a dump on it, because thats how much they are worth...they think that if you hit the same note or that if it's the same key thats its the right note....now in the majority of the music, that would work, but not with DMB....dont look at those tab books...

Wrong......they are actually official DMB tab books. They are endorsed by DMB and sold through them also. The thing is that neither Dave nor Management look at the books before they are put out. Dave has no say in whether what they say he plays is actually that. It's also hard to get Dave's stuff correct when not knowing his style extremely well. Chances are that the people doing these books do not know Dave's style as well as anyone on any of these DMB Message boards.

something to remember too...sometimes the album version...which is what the tab books are of...is different than the live version...a good example is #41..im not saying that tab books are good at all, but they always try to go for what is on the album, not what is played more frequently live
I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...

I agree. The books are great but if you buy them to learn how to play Dave songs the way Dave plays them, than you're wasting your money.winglet82 wrote:I tend to disagree with most people about the "tab" books. I write "tab" because they aren't solely for the purpose of teaching people to play the songs using tabs. They have the musical notation for the vocals as well as lyrics (not necessarily always correct, but pretty accurate), and they have every guitar track that is on each song written in terms of musical notation, not just tabs.
I have purchased a few tab books from a couple different bands (yes DMB too) and in my experience they have been about 90% accurate. The other 10% they aren't even necessarily wrong musically, they just have the tab incorrect. Usually its the correct note in the wrong position on the neck and string. For example they might put:
e---
b---
g---
d---
a-0-
e---
instead of
e---
b---
g---
d---
a---
e-5-
That's close enough in my mind.
Another problem lots of people have is "But that's not what Dave plays!!" If you are talking about a studio CD, then you are 100% correct. My guess is that 75% of the guitar you hear on any DMB studio cd (besides Busted Stuff and Everyday) is Tim Reynolds. The UTTAD cd has 4 guitar lines on each track, 2 of Tim and 2 of Dave and they, as well as the producer, have admitted to pushing the volume way down on dave's and the volume way up on tim's. So if you've fallen in love with dave's playing style by listening to the cd's, you've probably actually fallen in love with Tim's interpretations of dave's playing style. But anyway, back to my point: The guitar on the CD's is Tim, so the tabs will be of what Tim plays. That explains the huge difference in songs like #41 from the cd to how Dave plays it live.
Besides those two flaws, I can't see any other problems with the tab books. I think they are extremely accurate (no I don't work for the company that publishes them). The people that do those books are extremely talented musicians and I think they do a great job with what they do.
good, and you?
