Grey Street - Verse (Power Chords?)
When I saw Dave play Grey Street this past tour he was keeping his left hand stationary in first position just during the verse. I'd like to learn how to play it that way can anyone tab that out?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...

Yes I saw the tab, I'm talking about the verse not the chorus.
Verse
E:----------------------------------
B:----------------------------------
G:-7----4---6---2----4---6---2---4--
D:-x----x---x---x----x---x---x---x--
A:-x----x---x---x----x---x---x---x--
E:-7----3---5---2----3---5---2---3--
He didn't play that way through the D&T tour. He kept his has towards the nut.

Maybe you were just really far away to tell?
Actually given the PROPER fingering for the song, your hand really doesn't move that much or least not very dramatically (when compared to similarly composed song like Tripping Billies or JTR). Also, toss in the fact that Dave has some wicked long fingers and it could have very well looked like he didn't change postions.
It sure does feel like your hand is moving all over the fret board when you're playing it but from any distance...it's just doesn't appear as much. Besides, there is NO way that song would work if you just played one of the chords in the song. The rhythym depends too much on the changes.

If you watch the storyteller where Dave is playing "billies" he uses his index and middle finger for the first chord, and the his ring and pinky to hammer and slide up from there. Grey Street uses the same system of fingering. I saw him do this at the 3-28-03 show. His hand doesn't move that much because he puts his index and middle finger on the "3xx4xx", and hammers to the "5xx6xx" with his ring and pinky, and then moves his index and pinky down to the "2xx2xx" chord. It doesnt look like he moves it much but thats how it works. BTW I lied, he didnt play Grey Street at 3-28 but I have seen him play it like that somewhere. Try playing like that and it should be easier.

If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then give up. There's no use being a damn fool about it.

!
SWEET. I've been trying to figure out what was up w/this ever since Miami. I was close enough to tell he wasn't sliding, but I couldn't quite make out how he was playing it. This makes it tons easier... plus it gets rid of that annoying ring~!! Much better, thanks guys!!
