Warehouse Intro
Hey guys - during the Warehouse intro, what do you all usually do to mute the other stroings during the 7-9-11-7-9-10-9-7 part (you know what I mean?).... I'm having a hard time hitting just one string.....

Ok, well on the way up the neck (the 7-9-11 part) use your index finger to hit the 7 and let it lay on the other strings to mute them. Leave it there after you hit the notes. Now with your middle finger hit the 9 in the same fashion as above, and your index finger should still be resting on the 7, muting it. Do the same for the pinky, but if you let up on the other two like I do, at the same time you bring your pinky down to fret the 11 bring your ring finger down and just lay it across all the strings, right above the pinky. Get it?
Now for the other half, (7-9-10-9-7) its a little trickier. Hit the g string with your index finger, and make sure its resting on the b and high e strings. It should also be pushing up against the d string to mute it. Now, I've seen dave wrap his thumb around the neck to mute possibly both the low E and A strings, but that was a record store appearance vid in 93. Personally, I just try to hit only the bottom four strings (which are all taken care of here.) For the 9, leave your index finger in place and bring the middle down to fret the 9, while pushing up against the A string to mute it. Leave that finger in place. Now bring the ring finger down on the 10 while pushing up on the low E to mute it. 9 and 7 should be self explanatory.
Hope that helps! Might have gone overboard, but I'm sure someone can use the help. Just remember, you're only trying to mute/hit 3-4 strings at a time, not all six. Its a controlled attack, but a full strum, if that makes sense. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! Good luck...
