in my opinion, it's not hard to pick up some bass if you've been playing guitar for a while

If you know very basic guitar theory (major, minor, pentatonic scales, etc) then it really just moving from 6 strings down to 4. The only thing weird about guitar to bass is a different right-hand technique (to an extent) and playing on much fatter strings.

Seriously, those bitches are THICK.
If you want to be the popular one at a party, here's a good thing to do: Go up to some people who are talking and laughing and say, "Well, technically that's illegal." It might fit in with what somebody just said. And even if it doesn't, so what, I hate this stupid party.

the theory yes, the mindset, maybe not. some guitarists have a spotlight mindset and if you start with that on bass, you wont get very far as a beginner.

Well to play basic bass, all you need to know is the basic notes on a guitar. Like the G on a guitar is a G on a bass just an octave lower. You dont use a pick either, you like slap the strings. So its a little different but for basic stuff it would be fairly easy.

You can play however you want. Slapping is one style, it's not the style.

its not the only style? you could use some more words and punctuation to clarify your meaning.

last time i checked slapping was a technique. like tapping, thumping, and such. just dont use a pick, finger style is alot faster. also guitardmb,GUITARdmb, u dont wanna use open strings if thats what you where implying they dont sound very good alot of time unless u want that exact octave. but i dont know exactly what you where trying to say.

I meant for the basic notes. Proffessionals wouldnt do that, but for the very basic stuff thats what it is.
