question about chicago watchtower

for the jam, after dave plays the high chords, im not exactly sure how he gets that sound out of it. ive seen the video, and it looks like hes playing the barred F chord (i usually play xx321x) and hes just lifting it up to mute or something... ive tried it but it just sounds weird..

play the F bar chord, and lift and push your first finger on the first fret of the e string, so you are switching between like two chords
