DMB or D&T

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

DMB or D&T

Unread post by lordmelt » Mon Mar 31, 2003 1:59 am

i figured i would bring up this topic, i am thinking there will be some good discussion...

so everyone, what would you rather listen to...

the band, or just dave and tim....

for me...., a really tough choice....

i would have to say i love a lot of what the band does, and really like the added musical depth...

but, i have to say D&T is a little more appealing to me

trust me, it was very hard to make that choice....

no disrespect to carter(who i think is one of the best drummers out there)
no disrespect to Leroi(i love his shit)
as for Boyd, hes good, but, im not gonna throw out too much praise

for some reason i just love the essence of listening to D&T,

but, who knows, my opinion of this subject probably changes by the day...

you know, before I heard the shows from this most recent D&T tour I would have said dave and tim hands way down....but I listened to a couple mp3's and they sound boring to say the least.....I mean, LIOG- that song is supposed to be fuckin ripping, slamming, strumming like a mother fucker, jamming....I listened to one from this tour and tim didnt do shit...he just sat there with his thumb up his ass...and dave didnt do any better really....what the hell happened to tim, he doesnt add near as much?....anyway, to be honest with you I just might rather go see the Dave Matthews Cover Band play, because at least I won't to worry about all the bullshit Everyday/Busted Stuff crap that they poison the concerts with..........yea, dave's "maturing and expanding his musical horizon" ...whatever.....more like he's letting other people hold his cock and hand while he makes up songs.

For me right now, I would have to say Dave and Tim, only because...ONLY because I have seen DMB before. I want at least one chance to see them live before I would consider counting them out...

i would have to say D&T.... nothing better than an amazing rhythm and amazing solos. you dont often get both when the whole band is playing.

Depends on the Years....When I first saw Dave & Tim in 97' & 99' I would have definitely would have chosen Just the two. In my opinion Tim added so much to Dave's songs on those tours. (He acted as all other instruments in the band) But after this recent leg of Acoustic tours I would have to say I would rather attend a DMB show rather than a Dave & Tim Show. Timmy kind of bored me...I guess I was looking for the same enthuasiasum (spelling error) that that i Saw with Dave years years earlier. I left Norfolk kind of bored and wanting more. Anyway, I look forward to seeing th band this year, especially after seeing them at MSG w/ James Brown.

I will have to give you my opinion tomorrow due to the fact that I am going to see D&T TONIGHT!! For an acoustic guitar player, as many of us if not all are on these boards, I cannot see how anyone could pick DMB over D&T. However both rock.

They pretty much flattened the crowd with LIOG in Boone, NC (3/29)...It was awsome...

Yah, I don't think you can judge this tour based off "a couple mp3's"... just download a couple shows, you'll be impressed. From what I've been hearing, 3/29 is the one to have.

I have downloaded a couple shows (not 3/29 yet to be fair,) and I have to agree with Jason on this one. Tim has been almost non-existent this year, at least when held up to any of the past d/t tours. And I'm not just being a critical son of a bitch either. Tim will have a presence on a couple songs per show, but for the most part I've missed his skills. :(

I was at 3/25 and Tim ROCKED LIOG, although the recording of it doesn't even BEGIN to do the moment justice...

Tim wasn't quite as active as L@LC, but by no means was his performance a let down. He actually saved Dave's butt on a couple of occasions as Dave messed up but Tim covered it beautifully. I think that as the tour draws to a close we will see more and more of Tim as he and Dave really get comfortable together with these songs.

I'd pick D+T over DMB, just because I'd hate to pay for a DMB show, only to have Boyd come out and screw over a song with an out of tune solo. If I could be guaranteed that Boyd wouldn't mess up, then it gets harder, because Carter Beauford just plain ol' rocks.

Ultimate concert: Dave, Carter, Stefan, Leroi, Boyd (quiet and in the background where he belongs), and the mighty Butch with guest apperances from Tim, Bela, and Vic Wooten. Style would be mixed with a number of full band songs and a number of D+T songs. That would be just about perfect I think...
