DMB Time Signature List

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

DMB Time Signature List

Unread post by gumbomadness » Tue Apr 05, 2005 6:39 pm

I'm cracking down on myself on learning about everything-- in music. Even tho i have an instructor, i kind of side-step alot of stuff.. such as understanding time signatures...

Like.. i figured out that The Stone is in 6/8 all on my own! (I think its 6/8)
If you could all post the time signatures to Dave songs right off the top of your head.. it would help me!
Like.. I tried to figure out rapunzel-- but i couldnt.

All help appreciated!

(Also, if anyone knows Dave Brubeck- Take Five, is that song in 5/4 or 5/8? How can you tell? FJ/Mahler/MWR/anyone?)

Because-- i want to make it into Jazz Band 2 at school next year when the guitarist graduates (this year)--- im working on all my theory and being able to read and play jazz chords faster and on the spot-- and also im working on my site reading..
the final thing i need to understand perfectly is Time Signatures.

Thanks!
(Ive jammed with all the top kids from Jazz Band and they all say i have potential i just need to work on the things i listed above-- i have some shows coming up with them too ^.^ Anyone who can help me rocks btw)

take five is in 5/4....if you listen to Eleven Four, its in, (you guessed it) 11/4

i suck at counting them out, but i know that if you count out take five in quarter notes, the measure starts over after 5 quarter notes...(which i still havent understood why they are still called quarters, but whatever)

quarters because originally time signatures were ALL 4/4 and so a whole beat was a beat, and a quarter was a quarter of the whole.

Ok, when i have time, im gonna test rapunzel just to see :)
Anymore?
Ive never heard eleven four.. im gonna search for it now..

For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again
