Dave's A Chords

Unread post by Grandpagotgame » Mon Mar 28, 2005 3:20 pm

I know Dave usually bars and A chord with his first finger. But does he play, or do you guys play it like? 0222x ...... or 02222 ????

well, 02222 isn't an A chord. it's an A6.

I play it with my index finger. makes transitions so much easier.

i use my index finger to do the x02220 a chord too cause you're right, the transitions are much easier. but i think my fingers are too big cause when i do that, or when i barre the same chord (x23332 x34443 etc) i can never get the high e string to play. i'm always muting it by accident. oh well, only sucks when i'm doing arppegios or something.

That's my deal, it's impossible for me to bar it and play the high E as well, so do you guys just mute it and it sounds okay or what?

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I just go with it.

well while we're talking about chords, how many of you play the open D string in songs like Billies, Grey Street, you know what chords I am talking about. I play it open and think it sounds fine, and I think that Dave plays it open too.

i read in a dave interview that he plays his A chord un-barred if thats a word. he was commenting that he plays it weird with his fingers going:
2 1 3

Thanks, yeah I can play them fine, I was just curious how many people play the open D. Because I think the tabs on this site are wrong and that Dave plays and open D.

That's how I play it. I play it that way because G, A, and D were the first chords I learned so going from D to A just made it logical to use that fingering :)
