stone help needed

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

i tried it that way, but i actually prefer dave's way of playing the 5th fret instead of an open string. it keeps my hands moving...a lot of times if they stop, they wont start again... :?

I play it like this:

Code: Select all

Intro
E:--------------------------------
B:--------------------------------
G:-----2--------------------------
D:---------3---5-5-2-3-2-2--------
A:-5------------------------------
E:--------------------------------
    D D D D U D U D U
I think the extra note sounds better/more accurate and when you get to the 5 on the D-string you can just do 3 very fast groups of alternative picking (I think thats what its called) Try it I think its easier and better. I also play it this way after the 3103xx chord during the verse. Let me know what you think.

heres what i do....

if you listen to 3-14-99, when he starts the intro, it sounds to me like he goes... 5 5 2 3 2, .......and when it starts getting louder and quicker, usually go..... 5 5 2 3 2 3, and this is easier to play then the first part and gives an added sound, easier to play i say cuz you can just keep moving and done have to delay....

I'm having trouble figuring out what all you are saying, so here's what I have figured out...

Dave plays it like this:

E:----------------------------------------------
B:----------------------------------------------
G:---------2------------------------------------
D:--------------3-----5-----5----2----3----2--
A:-----5----------------------------------------
E:-----------------------------------------------

------ D--- D--- D --- D --- U -- D --- U--- D

I don't know how you guys are saying that he adds extra notes, because this riff if continuous, with no possible room for any others...I don't know, explain it to me...

for sure, thats how dave plays it, but, it does not sound bad to add another quick 3 on the d string, such as......5 5 2 3 2 3, you can alternate pick that really fast, and it adds a little, dave doesn't play it, but, if you have 3-14-99, listen to the start, at first, you need to use the 5 5 2 3 2, but, when it starts getting louder and tim switches it up, it sounds cool to go 5 5 2 3 2 3, keep in mind riff still includes the 5 on the A string and the 2 on the G string, i am just listing the D string part, if you add that little F it sounds cool when the stone starts to get louder, like i say, 3-14-99 is a good example, they dont fuck with the sound like that at every show, but, it is a cool little thing to add if you want to try it,
