the dreaded dislocated finger

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

the dreaded dislocated finger

Unread post by NoobGooN » Wed Mar 19, 2003 6:20 pm

so last nite, i decide to be a tough guy and run into my friend while playing football. next thing i know is that my ring finger is bent in a direction it's not supposed to be in. i popped it back in and i just got it x-rayed. luckily, no fracture. unfortunately, since it was my left hand....no guitar for 5 weeks. i just want to tell u all one thing. dont drink, and run into a friend who plays division 1 college football, unless u wanna be sitting here typing with one hand. on a good note...dave and tim @ uri tomorrow  peace and be careful haha

You get to see D&T, and I do not. Any complaints of yours are therefore rendered null and void, and undeserving of compassion. ;)

In all seriousness, that sucks dude. I hope it heals more quickly than they expect. :)

About 2 1/2 years ago I almost cut off the tip of my left ring finger while cutting a piece of prime rib at Outback Steakhouse. Cut through half of the finger and went directly to emergency room. I was lucky in the fact that I did not lose my nerve ending in the finger and still can feel the end of it. Eight stiches later and a nice scar I am back to normal!

When I first started playing DMB songs about 3 years ago, I tried starting with Satellite. Now my fingers aren't THAT small but I wasn't quite prepared for some of the stretches by any means. When I got to the chorus "Rest high above the clouds..." I was trying to move so fast that some of my fingers tried moving while some stayed. My pinky in my left hand refused to let go and I ended up dislocating it. I just popped in back into place, took it easy for a few days, and never said much about it but once in awhile...on colder days...it still likes to pain me some.

I'm just getting old I guess. >sigh<

Put your guitar in an open tuning and play noting but barres of all 6 strings, slide that up and down. Sure its not much but its SOMETHING. That's assuming that you still have full use of your index finger...

.....you could play the first 6 notes of "Nothing Else Maters" over and over and over and over (and over and over) again, but that would drive you and anyone in audible range insane.... ok on second thought DONT do that...
