Dave Haters.
So, I live on the west coast. Let me elaborate for you midwesterners and east coasters. Its not trendy to like dave here. I hardly ever meet people who have listened to more than Dave's radio songs, even in a college town. Hes just not big here at all. Most people just dont like him that much. Anyway, my buddies (a majority of which are attempting to learn guitar at the moment) always rag on dave. Untill I break out my guitar. I'll play something like smts or warehouse, without vocals of course, and I swear they are completely amazed. Its really funny how much they dig the riffs, and theyre like, "holy shit Mike, that's fuckin awesome." (This happened last night while playing smts.) And I absolutely LOVE telling them nonchalantly that "oh yeah, its a dave matthews band song." It just pisses me off that they wont even give the guy a listen, when theyre obviously impressed by the guitar work. Any of you get shit from friends, or any similar stories?

yeah dude, i was just sayin something about that in some other thread that i dont remember. anyway i only have a few friends who like dave. but im playing guitar in front of some friends at least once a week and i always bust out some dave and it blows their minds. i tell them ive only been playing 9 months and it amazes them. a bunch of my friends just started guitar and they said that they can only hope to be this good by the time they die. they know most of what i play is dave. they dont like his stuff though. gets me angry. not many people in my school like dave either. too much of a "chick" type of music. theres always some though.

I never got shit for it. I have played many songs at coffee houses when I was in high school and nobody knew the songs (except crash into me) so I just laugh at the people that play "lifehouse" and all the crappy radio tunes that really aren't that good...of course the people that play the radio stuff get a better response than I would....which sucks...
and I hopr that made some sense....

makes perfect sense. i dont like lifehouse at all dude... they had one good song which got overplayed. it sucks that people wont even give it a chance. they hear the name and say "that crap sucks" or something along those lines.

i caught crap about it before they got popular cuz lotsa folks werent really into real music in the 8th grade. it was all "i believe i can fly" and other goofy ballads but as everyone grew up and i gave them a dose of dave, they came around...they always do.

the thing i hate is my roommate cannot stand dave, yet he puts up with my guitar playing and shit, im so confused. he only likes Ants, i dont blame him for liking ants, but how can you ONLY like ants and not anything else?!? anyways, yeah i get the same reaction about dave but then i play it for them and they are amazed. i had this one girl that i like over last friday, and we were sitting there talking while i was playing guitar, i was amazed how i could play and talk at the same time and not put too much effort into playing it. she didnt know the music was dave matthews and i havent told her (yet). but she was amazed at how good i play as well as the stuff i was playing. i guess i was right all along, people dont like dmb cause all they hear is the stuff that they play on the radio, which isnt really all that great.
oh, btw, talking about performing, when i played in a talent show 2 years ago, i played crash with a singer and another guitarist. all the girls screamed when they heard that we were playing crash. and afterwards, everyone complimented me on how good i play guitar, but noone else on guitar or singing. i guess i was just kinda popular and showed my school what dave's music was all about (even though it was really simple guitar)

Hey...yeah, i've actually had a lot of mixed responses..All my good friends are all obsessed with him just like i have been for so many years, and everyone used to love him so much..but now people think i like him cuase it's just "cool" to like dave or somethin, im like yeah...even tho ive listened to him since i was 10, but whatever, and i get made fun of at baseball practice a lot for listenin to him, they all like rap and shit, which is not as much talent if u ask me...but yeah, whenever i got people around and im playin dave stuff, everyone loves it...so they can say w/e they want, there's a lil dave luv in all of us

most people here are just dave posers. this is typical-my friend was playing what would you say and a dude said 'that's crash, right?'
ridiculous. nobody knows whether they like him or not because theyve never listened to any of it. when dave played, all these people went and when he didnt play stuff purely off crash, they were confused. it drives me insane.
