a couple things,
first of all, on 3-14-99, does he use a 6 string(my guitar instructor says he does)

also... is it just me or does daves intro and verse just sound like there is something more there?

last of all---why isnt it on busted stuff?

1. yes he uses a 6-string

2. to me the intro is just as he plays it. since tim and santana play on it, it may sound a little thicker than you think.

3. only the band really knows why they decided not to put it on the record. in my opinion, they probably just wanted to have a couple fresh, new tunes and JTR was just opted not to be put on there.

hope this helps

If you don't already know, Tim Reynolds and Santana are playing along with Dave, adding some things. All of them are on 6 strings.

Not sure why it isn't on Busted Stuff.

1. lhndmb is correct - he uses a 6-string on 3.14.99. He didn't start using a 12-string on it until the 2000 tour.

2. The intro is the same on 3.14.99 as it is on the Lillywhite Sessions. However there are a few other differences. There is a chord Dave hits right as he sings "wrote the book of the seven seas..." and then he breaks into the "Rain down..". Also the jam is much different - it's just a simple chord progression they play through a few times while Santana and Tim go nuts. One of these days I'll submit a tab for it...

Keep in mind, at this time, it was actually called "John The Revelator" and that line was actually sung in the pre-chorus.

3. I posted this before but the speculation on why JTR was not on Busted Stuff was because of Santana. Since Dave and Santana worked on the song together he was originally supposed to be the ONLY guest on Lillywhite Sessions to record tracks for it in reciprocation for Dave's guest work on Santana's "Love Of My Life". Of course we all know the LWS got scrapped in favor of Everyday and Santana guests on "Mother Father" instead. It seems the band may just be waiting to release JTR on an album when Santana can guest on it again.
