I think I'm in the same boat. It's the hammer ons chords that screw me up. I can't get the rhythm down. Its extremely frustrating because the intro to 41 is my favorite 20 seconds in all of dave's library.

I assume we are talking about the Dave and Tim intro. Not the album intro.

thats what i thought too. #41 is my favorite song and it frustrates me that i cant get it down. the hammer ons are the only part that mess me up.

Could it be that the second hammer on should be a pulloff instead?

0h4 then 4p0

cherry lane has some good employees, but the problem is that a lot of the guitar you hear on the studio albums is tim's guitar because lillywhite liked to crank up tim's. so what they end up tabbing isn't always what dave is playing, which is where this site comes in.

I gotta say, the more I play it, I'm pretty sure the tab on this site is slightly off. As above, I'm almost certain that a pulloff follows the initial hammer on before the intro is repeated.

0h4 ->4p0

Am I crazy and have no ear?

Im pretty sure it's 2 hammer on's..that's just my opinion....keep playing it...

also, im not sure if everyone else does this....the tab says that you should basically keep the same shape for the 3rd chord and drop it down a string...which is right, cause dave play it that way at woodstock, but if you have a look at the listener supported dvd he plays this which i think sounds SWEEEEEEET....just the third chord that changes.....

E:--------------------------------
B:---------------8---3--3----3----
G:---5-----7-----7---x--0h4--0h4--
D:---2-----4-----5---4--x----x----
A:---3-----5---7-7---5--5----5----
E:-5-5---7-7----------------------

not a huge difference but i think it sounds much better and easier to play...

i've always played it like....

Code: Select all

E:--------------------------------
B:---------------8---3--3----3----
G:---5-----7-----7---x--0h4--x----
D:---2-----4-----5---4--x----0h4--
A:---3-----5---7-7---5--5----5----
E:-5-5---7-7----------------------
that's just me though. i think dave has played it differently over the years, from full band to just him and tim, so it's hard to play it just one way.
