What should i learn next?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Unread post by Elliottman » Mon Jan 03, 2005 8:31 am

Hey there! Ive being learning guitar about 10 months now, and im starting to understand Dave songs allot more now. Ive just learnt Lover Lay Down, i was running scared of the chorus for a long long time, then just thought what the hell, and it wasnt so bad. So this is what i have learnt

Lover Lay Down
Halloween
Grey Street
Proudest Monkey
Christmas Song
Crush ( Just need to patch all the parts together now)
Dont Drink the Water
Most of Gravedigger
Where Are you going

Ok what next? Something not massivly difficult though! :D
Thanks

Wow, you both have said Jimi Thing. I have looked at the vidoe and it looks pretty tough. You sure i will be able to handle that at what level i am at?

Sorry, i actually forgot to mention Typical Situation. I have learned it, but i dont play it to much. I find its difficult to get the strumming acurate. But i can play the song, just doesnt sound great. Is Crash a good song to learn?

Yeah, Crash is alright to learn. Jimi thing isn't that hard, the only part I ever had issues with was the 6/7 slide/hammer whatever at the end of the intro/verse.

same here 8) i cant keep rhythm at that part.

i am learning satellite right now and it isnt as hard as i think.

Just work it slowly then speed up as you go along. Jimi thing doesnt require stretch and ussually stretch is the hardest for beginners.

the first song i ever learned was smts. its not easy to learn, but once you know it you can play it standing on your head

jimi thing is petty easy, its slower and has no stretches

LIOG intro and chorus was the first song that i ever learned by dave, cuz my brother was obsessed w/ the song, so lets force the little brother to play it for him on guitar when he's stoned. haha. um the nature intro is so much fun.
try Granny, its a good one and real easy when u get the three main parts down.

WWYS is fun and like SMTS, once you figure out how to play them, your like "wow thats easy" (in my case they sounded like shit at first though haha)

Grace is Gone is a favroite, it takes a little practice though and some good rhythm and fingerpicking.

I just recently learned how to play jimi thing the only real hard part is the rhythm and im still learning the slaps he does during the main riff.

Oh Bartender and DDTW are real good and easy too. I've only been playing a year, so just listen to a dave song that you like and look up tabs and try to play it. One thing I notice is like if i tried to play jimithing 4 months ago and couldnt, the other day i tried to play it for the first time in 4 months and it just happened. It really shows how your guitar skills improve. Keep at it

I totally agree. When i first started learning i stupidly tried to do, what i thought were difficult Dave songs, and couldnt! But in the last month i tried again and theve come pretty quick. I got granny within 2 days, Crash was pretty easy, and the chorus to LLD quicklt too.
Someone on here gave me a challenge to try warehouse, so thats what im doing at mo. Most parts are simply, apart from the main rift. But its comeing slowly but surely. It obviously not at Dave standard but it doesnt sound too bad. Im having a little trouble with muting for it.
Any tips? or just practice?
Thanks for you help
