a pic would probably solve your problem completely. i don't ever play with my fingers except on christmas song, pay for what you get and stairway to heaven. oh yeah, and tears in heaven. i'm pretty sure dave uses a pick on both spoon and what will become of me.

I dont really believe that a pic will completely solve your problem. I do not play with a pic and do not have any trouble getting sound our of the stated cords. Practice is #1 to getting better, more clearer sound. Make sure your finger tips are pressed firmly on the correct strings and "x55xxx" in your case and that the other strings are muted correctly.

Playing "x55xxx" i use my index finger on down strokes striking the strings with my nail and upstrokes with nail on thumb. Try variations but basically in all comes down to proper technique and practice.

By "x55xxx" do you mean "x77xxx"? That might also be why it doesnt sound right. Spoon goes from "x75xxx" to "x77xxx."
