Dave Matthews, better with just Tim? Does he need the band?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

My favorite album is the Live at Luther College. Dave and tim make the a great combination. I listen to Dave's music and come to think that Dave is better without a band. Dave should just go out by himself with Tim and make it an acoutic duet.

I think Dave underplays with the band and lets the 5 others take over the show. A Dave solo or a Dave and Tim show showcase Dave's talent more.

I can't really talk since I've never been to a D+T show, but I would imagine DMB shows have 10x more energy than two guys playing acoustic guitars.

Actually, I think the band OVERPLAYS everything. I realize its a jam band, but Phish seems to have figured out the simplicity-is-good thing.

My vote: D+T

Agreed. Dave seems to be more focused on his playing during D+T as well. I also agree with the fact the band overplays at times. Sometimes the sound is so thick that you can't pick out all the cool stuff the guys are doin.

Phish is WAY too busy for me at times.

i actually think that the band [dmb] is one of the best at not overplaying.

What every one said about the band is true sometimes, but not always... I like them both, but D&T just cannot be beat.

Yeah they never overplay, but i think what they meant by overplay is other instruments seem to be taken over the songs and you can't hear dave's guitar well, but thats what you do in a band. Dave has to arrange his music differently with a band, cuz its not all acoustic

once you see a D+T show it is hard not to say they are better than the band. i do think that they are completely different shows though. the D+T shows are much more personalized and intimate. whereas the DMB shows are much more upbeat. just depends what style you like. if you like acoustic music, D+T are hard to beat.

I listened again. DMB will bringforth a larger audience because its rocky and jazzy, and sort of harmonizing, a different varieties. D&T is for us guitarists who love acoutics and see Dave with his guitar skills. He wouldn't get much fan tho since not everyone likes guitar as much as we do.

D+T is just dave playing guitar. it's beautiful sounding, but songs like OSW, #41, Seek Up, there are alot, are just plain so much more powerful in a full band setting.
