Dave and breaking strings...

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Dave and breaking strings...

Unread post by 6_strings_for_life » Sun Sep 26, 2004 7:02 pm

I have never seen dave break a string a single time playing live. Does anybody have a video of him breaking one? I cant imagine if he was playing like Watchtower and broke the low e string. Maybe im just stupid and dave has done this tons of times...

He does it a lot. I don't have a video of it happening, though. At one of the shows I went to this summer in Selma, he broke a string during Hello Again, so in the middle of the song, he shed his guitar, handed it to Monk, and Carter had an extended drum solo while he changed out guitars. Pretty cool.

This weekend, Ben Harper broke a string when he strummed too hard during a song, and it really popped back at him and it scared the shit out of him (I was front row, I could see him pretty well :P). He just stopped playing for the rest of the song, and before the next song, he gave his guitar to his tech. Well, being so close, I watched the tech clearly go to a little table in the wings of the stage and change the string in 11 seconds. Maybe that's fairly common, but for someone who takes 30 minutes to change strings, that was awesome!

On the D&T 2-2-97 DVD that is being tree'd right now he breaks a string at the beginning of ants....very noticable....Tim keeps playing while Dave gets up and changes out guitars and keeps playing.

He broke two strings during billies on 7-6, and like 5 or 6 over the course of 7-7.
