When I play this song, I play the stretch only once through in the intro, and I can barely manage, and I play the verse part during the singing, but if I extend the intro or jam alot then I play it like this, tell me what you think:
Code: Select all
E:-0---2---3---2----------------
B:-1---0---3---3-----------------
G:-0---2---0---2-----------------
D:-2---0---2---0-----------------
A:-0---2---2--------------------
E:---------0-----------------
Just thought I'd share that for anyone who has trouble with the stretch, the stretch will come in time but this is I think an adequate substitute until you get there.

This is actually kinda what Tim plays, and it sounds good for the intro and verse as well (but the verse is easy anyway)
--3----x------3--------
--3----3------0----3---
--5----x------0----x---
--5----4------2----4---
--x----2------2----5---
-------------------------

thats what i play as a lead guitarist in the two man acoustic group im in
except i play the 3rd chord with the note on b, 3rd fret instead of e, 3rd fret.
anyways, everyone was tellking me that first chord was wrong and im just glad to know someone agrees with me!
that chord is sweet for the song but no one realizes it
Everybody always asks me how she's doing. Has she really lost her mind? I said "I couldn't tell you, I've lost mine."

Yeah, the reason it is right is because those two high notes are two of the notes in the first chord of the outro:
-10-
-8--
-7--
----
----
----
so it sounds right. and the b and e string you were talking about, they work both ways, or together...

I would actually prefer playing the normal chords for the intro. when i first got L@LC, i learned those chords, and swore that they had to be correct. so i played those chords throughout the whole song. but i was uneducated...

oh a second guitar part? oh, then I'd play this:
Am -> Bm -> Em -> D
case closed.

yeah, or you could play what howie day plays for the song. this goes pretty well with the normal guitar part:
Code: Select all
e----3-3-3-3-3-3-3--2---2-5-5-2---7---7-10-10-7---0-0-5-5-0-
b----3-3-3-3-3-3-3--2h3-3-3-3-3---7h8-8-8--8--8---3-3-3-3-5-
g----5-5-5-5-5-5-5--2---2-2-2-2---7---7-7--7--7---0-0-0-0-0-
d----5-5-5-5-5-5-5--4---4-4-4-4---7h9-9-9--9--9---4-4-4-4-4-
a--0----------------2---2-----2---7---7-7--7--7---5-5-5-5-5-
