does anyone have any tips for strumming with the thumb for 'oh'..for the chorus etc.. to get a clear sound?

When I play it, I use a capo, and I find that it is hard to get a clear sound. But I've come to find out that the lighter I strum the clearer the sound I get from it. So maybe you're strumming a tad to hard, just let your thumb brush down the strings and not try to make the sound come from playing it harder than you should. That's the only thing that I can think of, hpoe it helps

so in other words...the best thing to do would get a b tuning.
