Raised B question...not the obvious one

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Raised B question...not the obvious one

Unread post by fenster1977 » Sun May 09, 2004 9:40 pm

Been playing SOL with a capo on 7 since I don't have an extra guitar around that I can restring to Raised B. Problem is that it's pretty tough to play it that high in the neck, where it's so wide and the frets so narrow.

I was thinking about rather than doing a raised B, to just retuning a few steps higher so that I can move the whole thing down the neck a little, give myself a little more wagon room.

I'm using EXP 15s (Ex light), how many steps can I tune up before I snap a string? I don't really want to find out through experimentation.

thanks

I'd think you can get maybe a half a step before they snap.. maybe a whole step

I wouldn't risk it. I'd just play that alternate chord kanter provided for the hard part.

I wouldn't experiment like that, too much torque on your neck and the strings you were talking about aren't cheap.

You're best bet is string a second guitar if you have one or get a beater and restring that.

I've seen a local guy in my fave watering whole who covers Dave pretty righteously cover SOL by using a capo at 2. Sounds decent.

Peace,

yeah, I've kinda started playing it in Em with no capo at all, it really doesn't sound that bad. Especially since I can't really sing in the original key anyway, the Em suits my voice more. Plus, if I ever get a spare tuned to Raised B, I'll already have it down.

I'm gonna try it on 2 and see how it sounds.

thanks!

Fenster1977, is your screen name your name, or is it...

"Hand me the keys you f*cking c*cksucker" - Fenster

"In English please" - Cop

"Gimme the keys c*cksucker, what dey f*ck"

or

"I'll flipya, for real"

- Quotes from a great flick, the Usual Suspects ?

It's an offshoot of my name...but I definitely hold an affection for the original Fenster.
