So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

prolly a silly request but could you make one of the chorus for Joy Ride?
Code: Select all
Chorus
E:------- E:-------
B:------- B:-9-----
G:-9----- G:-9-----
D:-9----- x4 Then D:-9h11-- x4
A:-9h11-- A:-0-----
E:-0----- E:-------
1_3 1_3
not hard but i don't have any copies of it where i can hear his guitar so i can't get the rhythm there.
thx

listen to the SU bonus disc joy ride. Butch's part is EXACTLY the same as Dave's, timing and all.

Ok for the intro/chorus I used Kanter's tab:
Code: Select all
Here's exactly how Dave plays it
Code:
E:-------------------------------------------------------------
B:-------------------------------------------------------------
G:------9--7--6-----6h7--6-----------6--4--2-----2--4--2-------
D:-(7)-----------7----------7---(4)-----------4-----------(4)--
A:-------------------------------------------------------------
E:-------------------------------------------------------------
1 4 2 1 2 1_3 1 2 1 4 1 1 3 1 4 1 3
Same notes, different positionnig. Easier to get that fluid sound with this fingering.
The chorus sounds pretty right in the tab already posted. Except that instead of the 1onG...it's really 6onD. That leads to the stretch Dave uses a lot(#34, Satellite, etc...), so it goes(2-4-6-x-x-x).
The breakdown is an Em instead of an E and the 2nd chord is an A-"Dave Chord"(5-4-x-6-x-x)
And for the pre-chorus I used Adwolf's tab:
Code: Select all
e---------------------------|
b---------------------------|
g---------------------------|
d-9---9---9-------6h7-6---6-|
a---7---6---6---7-------7---|
E-9-----7-----5-------------|
e---------------------------|
b---------------------------|
g---------------------------|
d-9---9---9-------6-6h7-6---|
a---7---6---6---7---------7-|
E-9-----7-----5-------------|
e---------------------------|
b---------------------------|
g---------------------------|
d-9---9---9-------6-6h7-6---|
a---7---6---6---7---------7-|
E-9-----7-----5-------------|
As for Stand Up, I used Pat's tab:
Code: Select all
Stand Up
Dave Matthews Band
Tabbed by Pat McInnis
Variation is key.
E-------------------
B-------------------
G-------------------
D-----5--3-2--------
A------------3-3h5--
E--3----------------

Nice nice videos, as i was reading this little thread, i noticed people saying they struggled with the guitar. I used to be a HUGE dave fan, things have calmed down now, and i have pretty much mastered all his stuff. And the best advice i can honestly give you guys, PLAY OTHER MUSIC. I found that by learning harder stuff, you progress much much faster, go to EMIL's phish site!!! I garuntee you guys will have an easier time playing Dave's music. It's incredibly simple compared to other musicians!

I'm on my way out the door so I didn't do a search, but can you do a video of Fool to Think? Specifically, I am looking for the bridge/jam part. The rest of the song isn't a problem for me. I just have never found a version that I can hear and/or see this part well. Thanks.
