if you want to get the most out of your hand stretching wise, keep your fretting hand parallel with the fret board and get your thumb as low as possible on the back of the fret board.. this should give you the most stretch. at least this is true for me
and all the little ants are marching..

I can do the #41 stretch no problem, but Crash my hand starts to get so tired i can't even hold the strings down, and i still can't even get the Tripping Billies intro to ring out clearly.

I guess it's just how long you have to have your hand there and the particular positions on the fret board or something

In reference to the 41 stretch on the second to last chord, when I play the song for an exteneded period, this is another chord I use for that one and it sounds almost identical.

------------------------
---------8--------------
---------7--------------
---------5--------------
---------7--------------
---------x--------------

...that works fine for me, But i do like using the normal chord, I have baby hands so that is a good replacement. Only thing is the transition to the next chord isn;t as smooth, but just mute the strings as you switch and keep strummin.
