Big Whiskey Tabs (so far)

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

So, it looks like we have:

Shake Me Like A Monkey
Funny The Way It Is
Why I Am
Spaceman
Alligator Pie
Seven
Time Bomb
Baby Blue
You & Me

#27
Beach Ball

Which leaves us:

Lying In The Hands Of God (the thread on this isn't complete, I'll work on that right now)
Dive In
Squirm (haven't liked any tabs I've seen of this either; for one thing, apparently live it's on the raised D guitar)

Little Red Bird
Write A Song

Am I missing anything?

Lying in the Hands of God is difficult, because there are so many layered guitars. I have no idea what the chord voicings are, but I can tell you this much:

Verse:

Bm, A, G many times.

Chorus:

Em, G, D, A
except the last time through ("lying in the hands of God") which is:
Em, G, D, F# (that's F# major, not minor)

Break I'm having difficulty with, it sounds like:

D/F#, G, (D), Bm
D/F#, G, (D), Bm
D/F#, Em7

I'm not sure about those Ds in parenthesis, but I think the rest is right. Also, the 7 in the Em 7 might be Tim, and Dave might just be doing a standard Em chord. Tough to hear.

While we're at it:

Code: Select all

Little Red Bird

This might not be perfect. If someone wants to take this and make it more precise, I'd be happy with that. It's enough to get you started though.

Verse:

  [ ]
E|----------------------------------------------|
B|-7---5---3---2---0--0--3--0---0--3--3--2------|
G|-7-----0---0---0----0--2--0---0--2--0--2------|
D|-0---0---4---2------0--0--2---2--0--0--2------|
A|--------------------x--x--2---2--x--x--0------|
E|--------------------3--2--0---0--2--3---------|
                      *

From the * onward, he continues fingerpicking, but fingers the chords the traditional way. I think it's probably easier to just listen to the recording and hear what he's doing than try to untangle me trying to write it out in a tab.

Alternate Riff:

This is usually played on its own, but once is used to replace the part in []s above. Details at the bottom of the tab.

E|------------------------------------------|
B|-7--5--5h7--------------------------------|
G|-7--0--7----------------------------------|
D|-0--0--0----------------------------------|
A|------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------|

Break:

There are multiple instruments here, but this sounds the best on one guitar to me.

I'm pretty sure Dave is either doing this, or just picking the chords while other instruments do the melody. It's hard to tell.

The way I play it, I just simultaneously fingerpick all the notes together that line up vertically in the tab below.

Your mileage may vary; if you think something else is going on here, feel free to tab it out.

E|------------------------------------------|
B|-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-----3--2---|
G|-------0-2-------0-2-------0-2-----4--2---|
D|-0-2-4-----0-2-4-----0-2-4---------4--2---|
A|-------------------------------4-2-2--0---|
E|------------------------------------------|

E|------------------------------------------|
B|-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-----3--2---|
G|-------0-2-------0-2-------0-2-----0--2---|
D|-0-2-4-----0-2-4-----0-2-4---------2--2---|
A|-----------------------------------2--0---|
E|-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-2-0-0------|

The last A in the break goes back to "a comfort to count the battles won".

Order:

Verse x5
Alternate Riff
Break
Verse w/ part in brackets replaced by Alternate Riff
Alternate Riff
Verse
Alternate Riff
Ok, I think I'm off for a while. Anyone have any corrections to the three I just posted?

[Alligator Pie is the last post from the previous page. Because I know I make that mistake and miss stuff like that all the time, I thought I'd mention it.]

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": "I once saw this in a movie, it was about a bus that had to keep it's "speed" above 50, and if it's "speed" dropped, it would explode...I think it was called "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down"!

Shake Me Like A Monkey, by Dave Matthews Band
Tab by Adam Hanley (adwolf16@aol.com)

Drop D tuning

Intro (x2):

e---------|---------|--------------------------|
b---------|---------|--------------------------|
g---------|---------|--------------------------|
d-----5~--|-----5~--|---1-----3----------------|
a---------|---------|-----1-----3-------3------|
D--5------|--3------|-1-----3-----5-3-5---5-3--|

Verse (x4 first time, x2 second time, x3 after bridge):

e------------------------|-------------------------|
b------------------------|-------------------------|
g------------------------|-------------------------|
d------------------------|--------------------5-3--|
a------------------------|--------------------3-1--|
D--0-3-3-5-5--0-3-3-5-5--|-0-3-3-5-5--0-3-3-5------|

e------------------------|-------------------------|
b------------------------|-------------------------|
g------------------------|-------------------------|
d------------------------|--------------------3-3--|
a------------------------|--------------------1-1--|
D--0-3-3-5-5--0-3-3-5-5--|-0-3-3-5-5--0-3-3-5------|

After watching the Fuse documentary, I feel pretty confident the actual verse is this:

e ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
B-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
G ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
D ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------------------------------5---3---
E -0-0--3-3--5-----0-0-3-3-5-----0-0--3-3--5-----0-0-3-3--------------

Also, the intro/chorus, only a slight modification. Again, after watching the Fuse volume 1 segment:

e---------|---------|--------------------------|
b------------------ |--------------------------|
g---------|---------|--------------------------|
d---/555|---/555 |---1-----3----------------|
a---------|---------|-----1-----3-------3------|
D-5------|-3------ |-1-----3-----5-3-5---5-3--|

(Edit: This keeps distorting the 1s once I hit submit, but know that only the /555s on the d string have been changed from AdWolF's original intro/chorus. Everything else is the same.)

The rest of the tab is pretty spot on. Nice work, AdWolF.
