took out the link because apparently it could be a scam. search "dm3md" on ebay if you want to see it for yourself.

everytime i post a pic or two of my DM3MD, i get flamed by the masses, so i'll hold off on that...
but i will say after reading this thread that the DM3MD sounds NOTHING like the D-35 or HD-35...aesthetics aside, the DM3MD uses:
1. 5/16" scalloped braces (not 1/4" straight braced D-35 or 1/4" scalloped HD-35)
2. engelmann spruce top...a world of difference from sitka, even though they are *relatively* close in species
3. the DM3MD uses an A-frame hybrid bracing pattern...similar to what is found on the Martin 16 series guitars, but again, a world's difference from the traditional X brace with tone bars on the standard series Martins
4. mortise and tenon neck joint, which again, is different from a dovetail neck joint.
5. Modified V neck, which is more of a vintage feel, is a lot different than a low-profile 16' radius found on most standard series Martins.
When you factor all of these into the equation, the DM3MD has a distinctive sound and feel that is much different from a D-35 and any other Martin. Where a lot of people get tricked up is that yes, it does have "that Martin tone", and yes, it does look a bit like a D-35 (and a heck of a lot like the 1995 Limited Edition 1965-1995 D-35).
But, the sounds are all different. If someone asked me, "Would you spend $4500 on a DM3MD" my answer would be "HELL NO!". In fact, my HD-28V BLOWS AWAY my DM3MD. However, and as I mentioned before, it has a very distinctive sound...so, hence the reason I love and will keep it.
I could go into more depth regarding the specific differences in build materials and tonal differences contributed by the African Paduak (very similar to Mahogany). But, I won't. I would just like to put my opinion out there from the constant sources of people exclaiming "Just buy a D-35".

I can't believe I didn't see this thread until now
I agree with T714, the DM3MD sounds nothing like a D-35. It has its own distinctive sound. Personally, I found the tone I love in this guitar, I have not found another that can match it. The beauty is astounding...and it acheives it through simplicity and taste. Also this guitar is so light....every time I pick it up I still think to myself how light it is. The fact that Dave's signiture is on the neck means nothing to me, thats not why I bought it.
Is $4500 too much to spend? That is a personal question only you can answer. All I can say is if you plan to keep it forever, then in 10 years you will not feel it if you spent $3,500 or $4500.
Good luck. All I can add is if you do buy it, PLAY IT....PLAY IT ALOT. Too many people buy this guitar and put it away with thoughts of selling it for big bucks down the road.

Gervais on Rosa Parks "she was arrested but then that law was changed- but she didnt stop there, she started sitting in the seats saved for disabled people. unbelavable, she talked to the driver when the bus was in motion- did she have the correct change ready? - did she bollox!"
this scam has been around for ages. you are directed to an ebay auction. when you click the actual auction, a NEW link pops up asking you to log in with your username and password. this NEW link is not associated with ebay. now, the seller has just received your username and password.checkii wrote:so it is a legit ebay link, to an authentic ebay auction, and when you log into ebay (not a foreign site) the seller can hijack (i assume by hijack you mean aquire your password and login)?
this is news to me.
haven't you heard of a "hijacked account"?
and yeah, this "legitimate" auction is now gone oh wise one.
