So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Most of the time he plays mostly what Dave is, except for the last like beat.
Code: Select all
------5------------------------------------------------
------5------------------------------------------------
------5--4/6-------------------------------------------
-------------7---5-7~~---------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
-3/5---------------------------------------------------
And than the fill that Tim plays that mimics roi and boyd is:
Code: Select all
------------------------------5-3---------------------------
-----------------------------------5-3----------------------
------------------------OR-------------5-2------------------
---7-5------------------------------------------------------
--------7-5-------------------------------------------------
-------------8-5--------------------------------------------
I just looked at the first few posts and noticed it was sorta off, so someone may have pointed this out already. The other part you guys have tabbed out seems OK. When I'm playing with my "Dave", I usually just mimic the F9 and G9 thing Dave does
Code: Select all
------5-------------------------------
------5-------------------------------
------5---4/6-------------10----------
---------------7------5---7--------7--
--------------------3-----x------5----
-3/5--------------1------/10---3------
well i just looked at all of these, and i'm wondering what it is that you feel was wrong...since your fills are exactly the same as the ones i posted a while ago.
EDIT: i deleted an old riff that i didn't know i put on there. you're right, that second one was just wrong. the first one though, is exactly what you tabbed, but just the way tim plays it.
p.s. i put your 41 tab on the front page. i gave credit...no worries.

Right, I was basically referring to that weird thing you had on the front page(SMTS)...I didn't investigate very thoroughly, though, to see what else was on there.
Cool man! Thanks for putting that 41 on there; it really wasn't complicated to figure out.
Do you want me to post any other songs? Like (I think) I said earlier, I'm in a D+T cover band(two people is a band I guess), so there aren't many Tim parts I don't know.

Yeah I'm the same way with Two Step; it's a really easy song to improv with IMO...it'd probably work out best to just post the basic parts Tim plays on Luther, yeah? I usually play whatever chord forms I think of for the verse, with, and than the bar chords in the chorus. But I play in drop D, so it's a little unusual. I'm at a party right now, but I can post a basic idea of what I do in that song in a day or so, unless you'll get to it sooner.

yeah, drop D is how timmy plays too. he plays a kind of bar chord type thing for the verse and chorus. nothing too difficult.

Here's two step...I have to go to work pretty soon, so this is a bit rushed. i-am-me feel free to change it or add to it or whatever...like I said it's very rushed and may not make sense or be correct.
Code: Select all
TWO STEP - drop D!
Intro melody:
just start off with this, and than fill in the rest with some good ol
D minor improv
------------------------------------------------------------
----3--5--6-/8--5-------------------------------------------
-(2)--------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
Some fingerpicking thing I do sometimes...the notes on the high E should
be played like the melody above sorta.

No problem man...I remember wishing I had tabs to some of Tim's stuff a couple years back, so I really don't mind helping people out with this stuff. Are there any others in high demand?

I would forever be indepted to you Kevin if you could get the first solo of LIOG... I can't figure it out for the life of me.. I noodle with the second solo.. but the first one just boggles my mind..
Or timmy's stuff on Watchtower?
Edit: Also Just wanted to mention how much I support this thread and respect those contributing to it.

I don't post on here really but I definately read a lot. anyways, it would be much appreciated for an idea on tim's fills for Let You Down. I've tinkered with it a little bit without much luck. And thanks so much for everything that has been posted so far in this thread along with the rest of the board.

Get me a version of the LIOG you're talking about and I could try to figure it out...they've played that song live lots of times, and none of them are officially released so I have no idea what solo you're talking about. Tim changes what he plays almost entirely every show.
Watchtower
Code: Select all
Intro/first verse
Just mess around in A minor. I have a few pedals I use (delay with volume swells), but if you don't than just solo lightly over it I guess.
Rest of the song
You most likely know the progression (Am/G/F/G), so playing versions of those chords is mostly what I do. Power chords get you a long way:
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
--7--7--7--7--5--5--5--5--3--3--3--3--5--5--5--5---------------
--7--7--7--7--5--5--5--5--3--3--3--3--5--5--5--5---------------
--5--5--5--5--3--3--3--3--1--1--1--1--3--3--3--3---------------
or play some trickier stuff. Here are different ways to play the chords Dave is playing:
A minor Gmajor Fmajor
--5--8---12--8-----|-3--7--10--15-----------|-1--5--8---13-----------
--5--10--13--5--13-|-3--8--12--12--12-------|-1--6--10--10-----------
--5--9---14--5--12-|-4--7--12--12--12--(10)-|-2--5--10--10--10--(8)--
--7-------------14-|-5-------------12--(9 )-|-3-------------10--(7)--
----------------12-|---------------10--(10)-|---------------8---(8)--
-------------------|------------------------|------------------------
^^^ DON'T PLAY THOSE CHORDS IN THAT ORDER! Those are just different chords you can use to replace the normal open chords in the progression. The ones in parenthesis are dominant 7th chords and will make a lot of dissonance with what Dave is playing. If you use em right, though, they'll sound really cool.
Tim sometimes plays the Stairway to Heaven riff, too. Here's that riff how Tim plays it:
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
-7-7---5-5---------------------------------------
-7-7---5-5-----0--3--/7--5--3--------------------
-5-5---3-3--1------------------------------------
For the solo...well, I can't help you there. Just shred your nuts off I guess :) Actually, he does play this one lick every now and again. It's from one of Paganini's Caprice's; sorry if you haven't heard Tim do this...it's really cool :)
-----------------12~~------------------------------
--10-10-13-12-10--------------------10~~-----------
------------------------9-9-12-10-9----------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
EDIT::: Let You Down has some cool Tim stuff in it...I played it once or twice but could never figure out that cool thing Tim does after Dave says "I let you down..." I'll try to figure that out

Here is a D&T LIOG Video. dated 1997-02-02

As always, if you can figure out what Tim plays for not only the first solo, but the second Solo.. I'd love you forever. As I said the other day. I noodle with the Second solo a bit, but don't really have a whole lot. Again I thank you very much for your help. You're a kind kind soul.

I'm downloading it right now...took like 7 tries

I gotta go to work soon, but hopefully I'll be able to at least listen to it once or twice before I need to leave.

just a thought: you might not want to learn tim's solos exactly the way they are. i know its fun to do every once in a while, but don't consume yourself with it.
kevin, i'll play the two step fills soon, but they look good to me. almost identical to what i play.
