on EWU live he plays the intro like this

also, the chorus is played in the 0-5 range... i couldnt really tell if he plays the on 5 or 0... to get those notes....
I think that its played on the D and G strings, not the G and B strings.

jason, u dont know this yet, but this site is gonna change to john mayer fan site 8-)
Seriously, everytime I get on this site to see what everyone is talking about, I hope to see the Stand Up cover on the home page.
I don't know why though. I have no interest in learning to play many of these songs. Is it just me or, are many of the songs on Stand Up unable to be played solo? I don't think we'll see too many acoustic shows with these songs.

Dream Girl, ODH, Stand Up, American Baby, Smooth Rider, EWU, OOMH, Hello Again, Stolen, YMDT, and Hunger can be played solo. Dave probably won't do most of them, but I can make them sound full and decent.

Dreamgirl no, because he doesn't play anything in the verse, unless he wants to invent something for a solo presentation. OOMH is the same deal, no guitar.

Music is music, you can transpose any song to any instrument. All you have to do with dreamgirl is alternate between an E and an A.

Like Pat said, for Dream Girl, just play E to A for the verse, it sounds good lightly strummed... and the piano in OOMH sounds great transversed to my guitar.

i've played a few solo, the only ones i can get to work for me are dream girl, die trying, hello again, and SU

AB i dont think can be played solo, that violin riff is a must. and it's really boring solo IMO

Bayou is boring as hell without drums and violin

Who can say really? I have a few guesses.
1. Kanter's busy.
2. Hee feels they aren't entirely definitive yet.
3. Maybe he's just been lazy and hasn't gotten to it yet.
4. Profit.

I think the Stand Up tab itself is wrong. The main lick that Dave plays sounds somewhat wrong, no offense or anything but it isnt right. I was playing along to the recordings, both live and studio and Dave fingers the same lick on the studio recording as he does on Weekend on the Rocks.

The video I have of Dave playing it from Roseland has him playing it on his normal 914 acoustic. Has he switched it up??? Any more confirmation?
he's been playing it on an electric lately, but i haven't heard anyone say it was the baritone electric.. probably just the same one he did Rapunzel with
He plays it on his Jerry Jones Baritone. Maybe he has it tuned standard?
You would seriously abuse the neck if you tuned a baritone to standard tuning. Dave played Louisiana Bayou on his JJB when I saw DMB in December, he did Stand Up on his baritone as well

Sorry, but it's not on his baritone. It's an electric that is very similar and it is most definitely in standard...

Possibly. Could just be a Dano for all we know, as those are the only guitars that are stock equipped with the lipstick tube pickups that i know of. And yea it is in standard I am sure of that without a doubt. Tuning a baritone to standard is just a foolish mistake, even Dave would know that.
