So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

What the hell was so "nicely said" about that? the man can't even spell
Naw, just playing...It's like this...a while ago I was at a guitar shop and I was listening to this guy play the guitar that was good at best...and we were talking about musicians and what not, and he was telling me that Eric Clapton was no good...It's like, there is no argument, I mean he is a great musician...but anyway, say you tried to play a sport and you pretty much blew ass at it...would you say that you loved playing that sport and it was a very fun great sport to play??? probably not...I feel thats the same way with some people that criticize Dave Matthews. Now, I am not saying that if you can't play exactly like Dave(or anything close to it, I won't say names) you are going to say he is "inefficient and not that creative", but I am just trying to give yall something to think with as to why people will criticize Dave Matthews' music as well as other musicians'...lata[/quote]
i see what your saying a little bit jason. but still just becuase someone say something bad about a person doesn't mean true man people have a right to say dave matthews doesn't play the guitar good and i or you can't stop them i may think theya re crazy but still its thier opinion so you can't just tell them they are wroung when its a opinion see what i'm saying man? i think i'm the greatest guitar player thats ever lived! thats my opinion see its my crazy dumbest opinion ever but its mine heh.
thanks dustin sorry again about misspellings dont' come to alabama for schooling heh

man you make me sick to come here sometims jason. because someone has a diff opinion then yours doesn't mean can't play it just as good as you do. stop acking like your God at playing the guitar. if david J. matthews would read your post he would think your a idiot. at least thats what i think he would think:) and i've listen to your music yes they are good, but you may play it like dave and you might sing it like dave but your never going to be dave man so do something orignial so we can one day be talking about why no one can be like jason.
thanks dustin sorry for missspellings i'm from alabama

dmbfanjason, you are so overwhelmingly startstruck it's apalling. you're entitled to your own opinion, but don't bash other people because they don't agree with your... uh, misguided rantings

Sometimes I think Dave could play it more practically. Warehouse is an example of a song that could be fingered differently and sound EXACTLY the same. Chris_Newman - Butch sounds so loud (especially in L@FF) because of poor mixing, in my opinion. Butch is cranked up above anything. Listen to any version w/o Butch and it still sounds smooth.

i agree
EDIT: I was agreeing to the poor mixing, not that there are better fingerings..

I can totally see where yall are coming from. For instance, I played warehouse like 7-9-11-12-9-10-9-7(frets) for 2 years and I thought "why would he go down to the 3rd string 7th fret like that instead of 12th fret 4th string? It is so "inefficient"...and plus "my way" always sounded just "ok"...then one day i switched to how Dave plays it and "BOOM" I got it down pat, like...pat pat pat....That has been the case with so many of his songs that I thought I had a better more efficient way of playing it...Yeah right!

I won't ever play another a Dave song a different way than dave now because I know it is the best and makes the song sound and flow SO MUCH better...i think if yalll really stick with it and stay as dedicated as I and a few others(jkanter....) you will give in and learn it the "Dave" way and be totally like , "God, why didnt i learn it that way in the first place, it sounds SOOOO much better"...and for the people that say he is inefficient...let me hear you play a dave song "your way" and make it sound as good as daves way...not as a challenge or contest or whatever...just to let me know it's possible....peace to everyone.

I disagree, if you sit down to play DAve Matthews whether you are a beginner or vetran you do it because the song you are wanting to learn is awesome. What would be the point of learning it in a different way? It is more rewarding and ecouraging to get a song dead on and will keep the beginner practicing. Anyway thats why I love this site cause most of the other tabs sites do everything the easy way and it doesn't sound like it. THis site gets you about as close as you can get without dave giving you the lessons himself. Just my opinion though...Later

I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree.
Personally, I don't feel that the sound is as smooth without Butch, as I have listened to a lot of stuff without him. But, that's just my take on it.

don't get me wrong, butch is absolutely bad-ass - i just don't feel that he is the sole reason that the band sounds smooth in concert ...
just my two cents
