So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

let me ask you, when you were just starting out, how many songs did you all try and play. Like two until you had them perfect or did you just keep trying on new ones and work on the existing ones as well?

when i was first learning i tackled a bunch of songs at once, but never the whole song...like, i learned the satellite riff and the recently riff, the grey street verse, etc...

but now, i try to learn one song at a time, so i can perfect it with singing and all...

Did you eventually continue the song after learning the riff, to completion? And over time, does that completed verion improve, rhythmn, fill and etc?

oh yeah. everything gets better over time. i think the first complete song i learned was probably grey street, and it still gets better every time i play it.

most of dave's style you can't learn on just one song, the muting and stuff...i know pretty much all the songs now, and they all help in their own way to improve your guitar skill.

thanks that helped alot...I think I need a journal of songs (tabs, sheet music) and get into action with the CD's. And stop looking for perfection in the song and except the fact it takes a long time to understand it like the author does. After all, how long did dave play his songs before he got the level he has now. Same as other guys garcia hendrix yadya.

yeah...you almost have to accept that you wont be good at first, and a complex comes with it...i've "performed" so damn lucky probably 50 times now, because people are always like "play us a song" and i always do that one...and even though i know it by heart and have played it so many times, i still think it could be better. i think no matter how long you play guitar, you, well at least this is the case with me, always think you aren't good. because there is always someone better. you have to think instead "wow, i am better than i was yesterday."

I used to also learn opening riffs mainly. Then I proceeded to learn the rest of songs...
