I didn't say it was that big of a stretch. But actually for those that aren't used to playing dave's style or any of his stuff it would be considered a bit of a stretch. I just said that when you keep your fingers in the same spot for a song like crash and don't give your fingers a rest by switching chords, your hand starts to get a little sore if you're not used to it.Hydro120 wrote:What the?? x4245x is a stretch? If it's not that bad of a stretch, then why does Dave change his fingering halfway through the song, and if it's not that bad, why do you see him shake the cramp out of his hand after he gets done playing?Hydro120 wrote:What the?? x4245x is a stretch? Good question. Dave's hands are lot bigger than mine, I guarantee you. I've only had to give my hand a rest after playing Satellite straight through.boyle wrote:If it's not that bad of a stretch, then why does Dave change his fingering halfway through the song, and if it's not that bad, why do you see him shake the cramp out of his hand after he gets done playing?Hydro120 wrote:What the?? x4245x is a stretch? I don't consider this song a stretch though, and I'm still confused as why other people do. This was probably the first Dave song I learned, well before I was used to his style.

I don't think it's the stretch, because you're right, it's not that bad. I think what starts to get sore is inbetween your thumb and first finger from pressing your thumb against the back of the neck for so long in one position. At least that's why my hand used to get sore. Many other songs you're changing chord positioning so your thumb is moving and getting breaks, but crash is almost holding in one positioning for the whole song. Wears on the muscle in your thumbHydro120 wrote:Good question. Dave's hands are lot bigger than mine, I guarantee you. Although it shouldnt have to be like that if you manage to relax your hand while playing. Yeh probably not. I think my hand is usually relaxed while playing. I found I used to have to press down harder when I had my Martin, so my hand would get more sore more quickly. But with my taylor I don't find myself having to press down as hard. Maybe it's just Martin' frets, i dunno.fedelm wrote:Although it shouldnt have to be like that if you manage to relax your hand while playing. First off, he said he's using a grip capo on capo 2 to give him the Drop D effect.
And this is how he said he plays it.
"Then just play a Dsus2 (leaving the top 'e' open), and the bass notes pattern which is E (2nd fret on A string), G (3rd fret on E), A, E (open bottom E), then F# (2nd fret on bottom E), G, A, E. Does that make sense?
The 'when you come crash into me' bit is the E (2nd fret A) then you follow the melody with F#, G, A, E. The chord before going back into the riff is just a C9."
It's kind of got me confused...can anybody put that on a tab?

This is what he seems to be saying
play capo 2 but with the low e uncapoed
e|--------------------------------------------------|
B|---3------3----3------3----3------3----3------3---|
G|---2------2----2------2----2------2----2------2---|
D|--------------------------------------------------|
A|-2-2---------0-----------------------0------------|
E|--------3-----------0----2------3-----------0-----|
if you want play in lower key you can play this in standard but replace the open low e bass note with open D(4th string) notes, sounds ok
