halloween question :)

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

i've always play'd the intro as 1x3 to 3x5 to the 7x9 and so on. i based my version on the l@lc and the live at the ten spot, granted i haven't seen the live at the ten spot version in a while. but my way seems to sound pretty accurate. i have tried the 2/8 way but i feel more comfortable playing it my way. anyone else?

snoopdoug1 wrote:Hey guys... after listening to hillbilly's halloween cover, and hearing a lot of people say it was pretty easy, I decided to try it.

Code: Select all

Verse
E:--------------------------
B:--------------------------
G:--------------------------
D:---------9-9--10-10--x-x--
A:----2\8--x-x--x--x---x-x--
E:-1-------7-7--8--8---x-x--

This is the part I'm working on. Listening to hillbilly's cover, I don't hear the two xxx and xxx at the end. Tell me if I'm understanding this right please :) You pick E1, then pick A2 and slide to A8(you must have to have SUPER fast hand to do this?). Then, if I hear it right, the 9x7 and 9x7, then 10x8 and 10x8. So the sturmming pattern seems easy. Pick, pick + slide, downstrum, downstrum, downstrum, downstrum(or down,up,down,up... haven't figured it out yet). Is that right? If so, then I just need to get to where I can make that 2/8 fast enough :) Any good ways to practice slides?

I appreciate all your help guys! :)
Hey snoopdoug1, i definately use just downstrums on the verse, and i add another note onto the f.....i try play the little mutes just before playing the f, if you listen to l@lc it sounds like dave plays down(mute) up(mute) down(F)...then down(B)X2 down(C)X2 ...does that make sense? Hope it helps..

Code: Select all

E:--------------------------
B:--------------------------
G:--------------------------
D:-3---- 9-9--10-10-x-x-
A:--2\8-x-x--x--x---x-x--
E:-1-----7-7--8--8---x-x--

So you don't play those two mutes at the end then?

I do play the mutes, just before the F, mute with a down strum, mute with an up-strum and then down for the F...it's really quick so if you just want to play one mute I dont think it's going to make a huge difference..

Code: Select all

Verse
E:------------------------------
B:------------------------------
G:------------------------------
D:-3--------x--x--9-9--10-10----
A:----2\8---x--x--x-x--x--x-----
E:-1--------x--x--7-7--8--8-----
So is that what you play? Something like that?

down on the first chord(or just play the E1), then 2\8, then down, up on the mute, then down down on the 9x7, then down down on the 10x8 repeat?

Or is it this:

Code: Select all

Verse
E:--------------------------------
B:--------------------------------
G:--------------------------------
D:-3--------x--x--9-9--10-10-x--x-
A:----2\8---x--x--x-x--x--x--x--x-
E:-1--------x--x--7-7--8--8--x--x-
Thanks again, hillbilly.

ok, i posted before on this topic but i have to say that after four sierra nevada bigfoot's(9.7%) and a lot of practice that Trippin Hillbilly was right with the 2/8 and no mutes in the begining but once you get into it i just naturally through in i think one up/down mute before the 2/8(make sense?) and then at the end i think i hit a high open E and then back into it. thanks soo much for everyone's discussion on this song for i have just spent the last 30 minutes jamming to the l@lc version. very nice :D
