i always play the 5's....i have tried the open string method but it doesnt feel like i have enough control...a smaller reason i play them is cau'se i like to keep it the way dave does it...
I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...

i think the strumming is basically just the intro riff... when i play through the verse i am essentially picking the notesDmbFanJason wrote:I'm not sure why some think that the stone is all strumming....I have only heard/seen him strum the notes twice........(on that radio show and on the charlie rose show)....he picks the notes when he plays with tim and with the band...I think it sounds better when its picked anyway...the stone was hard for me...but that could have something to do with the fact that I had been playing guitar for a year when I tried it...ryopan wrote:LOL. well thats a sweet tune man. good job.
the thing about stone is that dave strum/pick. im not there yet. i do it partially but its really just a mean and nasty pick that i act like is a strum. any tips on getting this down. hand positions etc?

Dave boring? ok now I'm really madfiredancer86 wrote:Actually grave, before I found this site I went through months and months of refining it and trying to get it to sound right...since then, I have learned more and now could probably just pick it out by ear, but the point it that it was a hard one to perfect...I'm not trying to toot my own horn in the least, but Dave has now become boring to me...awsome, but not a challenge...I'v bigger fish to fry (i.e. Keller Williams and Tim Reynolds)

I know what you mean. from a pure guitarist/guitar music standpoint Tim Reynolds, Keller Williams, Eric Clapton is more of a "challenge" but Dave's songs are never ever ever boring.
ok, first punch thrown. next.....

at least this is more believable than Tico learning it in 15 minutes.billywestom wrote:nice...Stone was so easy for me...actually, i made it up, and sent the tab to Dave, and he started playing it! He does it more so with the band esp. after the finger twister (when the next verse would start)...but I know what you mean...DmbFanJason wrote:I'm not sure why some think that the stone is all strumming....I have only heard/seen him strum the notes twice........(on that radio show and on the charlie rose show)....he picks the notes when he plays with tim and with the band...I think it sounds better when its picked anyway...the stone was hard for me...but that could have something to do with the fact that I had been playing guitar for a year when I tried it...ryopan wrote:LOL. well thats a sweet tune man. good job.
