if its a basic chording song just match the chords in the song to notes in a chord... for example if the progression was like E G C then it would be in the key of C because a c chord has e c and g notes in it. for other songs its a difficult process
not exactly true. It could just be a I iii vi chord progression in Em..well, if that C chord were a 7th chord(C7) that is. But anyway, he's sort of right. That's a simple way of doing it, but there are sometimes flaws in that. I agree though, Harmonic isn't hard to get decent at, but to play something like John Popper is gonna take some years of practice
