i think he plays the open d because he gets a fuller sound and his fingers are angled so he cant mute the d unless its pretty straight

you can hear it too
and all the little ants are marching..

he plays it two ways, barred, like in seek up, and that 2-1-3 thing. The 2-1-3 does give it a fuller sound like in so damn lucky.

for the billies chords, i use an open D string to go with it.
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again
