I do not know if anyone clarrified the difference between the two books. The first book has both the notes for the vocal part, the notes for the guitar part and the guitar tabs. The second book which is labaled piano/vocal/guitar or something like that is not what you want. It only shows the notes for vocal and a rendition for piano that tries to encompass all the different parts into one so someone can play his songs solo on the piano. It will only show guitar chord names and not individual notes. I also believe that since the piano rendition includes a mix of all parts, its not what butch plays either.

To answer the second part, you should be fine playing it the way dave plays it even if you show him the cherry lane sheet music. Tabs is not music, tabs is an aide to those who can't read music, or who really want to know what fret positions someone else uses. But if the music says play an A and you play it on the 6th fret of the 6th string rather than an open 5th string, it is the same note in the same octave. You can argue strings have a different resonent sound because of the gauge, but thats personal prefference, nothing the teacher could possible take points off for. It is similar to dave playing the 5th fret with a pic and you play it with your finger. Its the same note, but it will resonate slightly different. Hope this helps.

As far as the accuracey of the books, some of the books seem to be right on the money and others seem to be way off. Both of the luther college books and the some devil book seem to have it exactly the way dave plays for most of it. Some of the other books like the crash book seem to be much less reliable. Its the same music, but shows hand positions different than daves.

I think if you are going to make a tab book, your company should have permission to go to a concert with a video camera an tab the players hands from the front row. Then there will be no question as to what way the artist chose to play it.

as far as the tabs being wrong but the notes being right.. im sure youre supposed to be reading the notes anyway, so you can play them anywhere you want on the fretboard
