Does Dave ever use Palm Muting on any Songs? also....

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Ha.....maybe I'm wrong then. I was under the impression that Palm Muting is w/ your strumming hand. If it's w/ fretting hand then we're all saying the same thing....if it's not...then I'm saying the opposite of you guys

Sorry if I had my terms mixed up guys
No, I said it wierd. I agree with you and what you are saying is right. I meant play something palm muted, then play the same thing while muting with your fretting hand. My bad

:) got ya....it just read a little wierd...all good, peace

Oh...also guys.....just listen to the intro of Minarets he plays. We all know that's obviously just normal muting on the fretting hand but that's the same sound we get at verse of Nancies and LIOG. Just figured you guys could listen to those clips to get a good showing of how they sound the same.

Also, I'm not saying Dave never palm mutes....when he plays songs solo he does sometimes to get a little more rhythm type sound out of the songs....but he doesn't do it THAT often

I use to think that he did it on Baby, but he just plays the bass on the down beats.

He also uses a kind of semi mute strum on gravedigger which is really cool.
I mean, if you were here w/ me as I was playing guitar.....I'd be able to show you.....but Dave doesn't palm mute on that LIOG part...same w/ Nancies and countless others I'm too lazy to name.

I mean, palm muting can give you the same effect...but Dave just doesn't use it all that much....he does sometimes....just not that much
You misunderstood me, i didn't say he palm muted that, but only muted with his palm to get that sound. Seperate your definitions of palm muting and a muted strum with the palm. This is really all very trivial stuff by the way.

I can explain it more later....but from what I've gotten, he doesn't palm mute all that much.
He palms mutes alot more than that. However, he palm mutes more when he's playing solo, or with Tim.

But really, he palm mutes very, very often. Just more when he's playing solo or with Tim.
Pat---I have noticed that distinctive sound in Gravedigger---do you know how he's doing it or when he's palm muting? Also---I posted a thread about Typical Situation asking about this.

on songs with repeating riffs he tends to play the intro once through kinda muted when he plays live...
eg: that nancies video that was in the recording and critiqueing forum like a few weeks ago.

Yeah, that's a perfect example. He's palm muting in the acoustic Gravedigger. Same with the studio Stone.

He often begins with palm muting on songs like The Stone or Help Myself, which start soft and get louder. As the song/intro progresses, he eases up on the muting to make the strings ring more.
