I'm pretty sure the same goes for UTTAD, Rhyme and Reason is a pretty good indication of it.
Reason being, i've never heard Dave use vibrato on some of the notes in the verse and you can CLEARLY hear it on the album.
So yeah i'd say Timmy played Dave's parts on Crash too.

CTech Chop Shop
The Chop Shop is a digital recorder with 32 seconds of record time and a virtual tool box full of record and playback features. You can slow a recording down without pitch change, you can eliminate vocal channels, and you can highlight rhythm or lead guitar tracks. It has everything you need to easily dissect and learn any song or riff.
Continues Record & Playback The Chop Shop is designed to continuously record a maximum of 32 seconds. When the unit reaches the end of the 32 second record length, it will automatically loop around and record over the beginning, and continue to do so until the button is pressed. This is very useful when trying to record a specific part of a song. You do not have to hit the record and stop buttons exactly where you want the recording to begin or end.
In the play mode, the exact length of the recording will continuously loop. There will be no dead air if only a portion of the 32 second record length is used. The loop button can also be used for a more exact, user specified, continuous playback loop.
Specs/Features:
Digitally Record up to 32 seconds from CD Player, Tape, or any other external source. Playback at normal, 2/3, 1/2, 1/3 speed without pitch change. Continuously loop a single note, entire recording or anything in between. Eliminate vocal tracks or isolate right or left channel only. Adjust the playback mix with independent volume controls for the recording and the guitar. LED display for accurate visual feed back. Operates with 9 volt battery or AC adapter (not included).

one thing, dave did NOT play a single electric on any album til Everyday. He rarely played one on his own or live (sometimes he would take someone's guitar and go onstage, like he did once with Crazy). You can get an electric sound from an acoustic. Just fiddle with the EQ and the gain, and you can get that sound. He might be even using the Chet on those ocasions to get that sound (since it's easier to do that with a chet). Also, Busted Stuff (the song) gets it's sound from fooling with the Line 6 Pod Pro.
Yes, I am in a box

Weird, its seems funny dave would ever use distortion on his chet. Maybe he was looking for a more electric sound on crash. Of course, I've been told he doesn't use his chet in the studio.
What guitar did dave use in the studio before he got his DM3MD (for UTTAD, Crash, BTCS)?

I know he used that for the 1999 d&T tour and storytellers, but I heard somewhere that he used his yamaha country jumbo (the one in the satellite and stay videos) four studio recording.

Definitly sounds that way on UTTAD but not Crash and BTCS. I say jumbo for UTTAD, Chet for Crash, and HD-28v for BTCS.Davy28 wrote:I know he used that for the 1999 d&T tour and storytellers, but I heard somewhere that he used his yamaha country jumbo (the one in the satellite and stay videos) four studio recording.

Yeah---I guess I should have explained. You were asking how to take Dave's guitar out of the mix so that you could play. The "chop shop" will do it. It's freakin awesome. You run your cd player directly into it and then to the speakers. It can slow down the music without changing the pitch (and yes I know that there are free programs you can download for the com) but it also will isolate any instrument or voice as well. Look on ebay for one.
