I just started playing not to long ago and the guitar I bought (1st guitar) was an Ovation because I thought it was easier to move around on. I really respect Dave as a guitarist and would expect that he uses the best guitars out there. Are Ovations shitty or just not part of Dave's collection?
Dave played an ovation before he could afford good guitars
He played one back in the early days. There is a video kicking around that has him playing it.
Peace,
yea, the 92 show at the Van Rypers music festival.
and yes, in comparison to Martin's and Taylor's, Ovations are shitty. The plastic back just doesn't create as warm of a feeling as solid wood acoustics.

D'addario EJ39 (12-string)
D'addario EXP15
And he used to play w/D'addario Phosphor Bronze lights, too.

WOW! I had no idea dave played with such light strings. I play with the EXP17's. They're kinda stiff sometimes, think I might try the 16's instead next time. Thanks for the info Stuntcheeks

Yeah, the EXP17s can be a little stiff. I just started using them, but I LOVE the volume and sound that's been coming out of my guitar. I don't think I'll go back.

At first I didn't notice too much of a difference, cause i normally use the p-bronze mediums, but it's been about a month now and they still sound awsome.
