Dave's songs and non-pick using players.

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Dave's songs and non-pick using players.

Hello peeps. Are there any of you out there (like me) that are non-pick users and play dave's songs?

How do you approach the likes of Ants Marching and So Much to Say? Dave always has a strumming action no matter how many notes hes striking. I sometimes find it difficult to get the same sound if i'm single finger striking.

I've been strictly a pick user since I started playing....Dave is making me contemplate pickin up a pick

Cheers

I use my fingernail on my index finger instead of a pick. I'm not a fan of using a pick cause it always slips, plus it sounds better with my fingernail. Gives it a tad bit of a softer tone.

I only use a pick if I'm playing something fast or if the strings filed down my fingernail too thin and I'm afraid it will break off

haha i know what you mean....i used to do that....then i wore a hole in my nail....so i picked up the pic....and i'm glad i did....Not to put you down but its hard to get anywhere without using a pic. Its hard as hell to play leads without them so i just use them....I like the hard pics.....I get a lot on the strings that way....I guess the only way to get that sound is using a pic....But finger picking is very original....i would like to see how you play WWYS and SMTS or something fast and heavy.....

Eh... SRV used a pick almost exclusively. Maybe you're thinking of somebody like Mark Knopfler?

My lead playin is just fine with ma fingers, for the stuff I want to play that is. I've tried to get into the pick a few times but just end up gettin fed up and puttin aside.

Not tried WWYS yet (relatively new to Mr Dave). SMTS is proving tricky to get to sound good

I love playing #41 without a pick. It sounds much better solo.

if i am playing solo i like to play with just fingers, but if i am playing with a group of people i normally play with a pick then. I just like the sound better with my fingers if I am by myself. But if there a bunch of players then the pick allows me to be heard by others
