Usually when there is a slide made like /10 and no number infront of it , its from the 3rd , same goes the other way around , if you slide like 10\ it stops at the third , those are just basic guidelines , alot of people change those around though

Very true , thats why i said its a general guideline , if you go on basically any guitar instruction site on the net , and you read about slides , then thats exactly what you'll see

i slide from about 4, because when you play the 135 part, your 3rd finger falls nicely to the 4th fret to do the slide.

ahh i see, didn't know that, thanks everyone :D

and i know this should go under techniques and whatever that other board is but while you're all here, what does it mean to solo to a key? what is a key? I was at http://www.guitarists.net/scales/index.cfm, but didn't know how to read it :(

oh boy...That could take a while to thoroughly explain. A key is a key signature. Key signatures dictate to the player which notes are sharped/flatted throughout a piece. By knowing this you can solo "on a key" by playing notes that fit into the key. Keys are what make up scales in some sense. That's why you'll hear people say G scale, which consists of one sharp, F. If you really really really want to understand it more than what I said PM me.

I personally think it sounds best from the 5th fret. One time I was playing this song and accidentally hit a harmonic at the end of the tab above. The 3-5-7 part. I played 3-5-7-(7). First 7 on the 3rd string and the harmonic 7 on the 4th. Hit the 1st one with your pinky, then ease up slightly and move it up a little. Now I play it like that all the time. I know it's not the Dave way, but it sounds kinda cool, like there should be another note there. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
