So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

It's a baritone in baritone tuning. I sent this question to the Road Crew through their page.

just to add that when dave plays american baby solo, he adds the base notes (5 3 on the low e string)

the 3 coinsides with the restarting of the riff.

“Old Dirt Hill”
By Dave Matthews

This song really takes on a new life as an acoustic song. Dave & Tim Reynolds or Dave solo acoustic performances of this song are kind of interesting.

Part 1
e--------------0--0-0---------
B--------------1--3-1---------
G--------4-4---0--0-0-------4--
D--------0-0---2------------0--
A--------x-----3------------x--
E--3-3-3-3--------------3-3-3--

Part 2
----------------------0---
--------------3-------1---
------4-------0-------0---
------0---------4-----2---
------x---3/5-----3-3-3---
3-3-3-3-------------------

for the bridge (i think) strum this ("screamin, shoutin...") then go back to Part 1 (do this twice)

-------------
-------------
--------8----
--------5----
--6-6-6-6----
-------------

for the second bridge ("but you know, when it gets hard...") strum these chords and make them not quite as "choppy" as the verse

       C (D#) G Am C (D#) (D#) D
----0---------------0---0------------3
----1---------------1---1------------2
----0---8---4---8---2---0---8---8----3
----2---5---0---5---2---2---5---5----0
----3---6---x---6---0---3---6---6-----
------------3-------------------------

acoustic only outro, play this really choppy with almost a #40 feel to it

---0--------0---------------
---1----3---1-------(0)-(0)---
---0----0---2----0---2--0---
---2----0---2----0---3--3---
---3--2-----0----2---3-(3)---
----------------3----1-(1)---

repeat to the end

This is my first tab, so if its not as helpful as I thought it would be, im sorry

Most of those tunes arent hard to play with the live recordings that I have, although playing an extended version of Louisiana Bayou is kinda a nuisance when you dont play a solo and just do the ryhthm guitar. And yes Dave does play his acoustic on Old Dirt Hill. He did when I saw them last year on the winter tour, and occasionally he does it on his Bari though, on the Red Rocks Weekend DVD he plays his Bari. So I would like you all to ignore my last post that was made in this thread.

Holy crap, I just realized that it will be a year in 3 days from my first DMB show.

You can pretty much play along with the recordings from the Red Rocks Weekend shows to the tabs on the first page.
DMB shows attended: 4/12/05 - Molson Amphitheater, 9/12/06 @ Air Canada Centre.
Upcoming: DMB June 9th 2009 @ Molson Amphitheater
