Satellite
Does Dave play the Satellite verse w/o moving his hand (No shift)...I have been, I just thought about it after someone mentioned the "correct way"...

yeah, it's harder to play at first, but easier to play in the long run.

I think a common misconception though is that he barres the 4th fret and doesnt move that finger at all......which isn't true in the least. If you watch the storytellers video, its really clear that he's picking up his index finger from from the fourth fret E and moving it to the fourth fret A and back and forth. Its about a thousand times easier than trying to fret the entire 4th fret like so many people seem to think he does.....well, at least so many people I know who play Dave.

i didn't know people thought he did. I just fret each note seperately. The key is trying to keep your wrist in the same place relative to the neck, i.e. no sliding.m98ter wrote:I think a common misconception though is that he barres the 4th fret and doesnt move that finger at all......which isn't true in the least. Actually.....He never did that. There are video's from him playing Satellite from before they recorded UTTAD and he plays it the same way as he does now. You can also tell in the fact that he said he figured out that riff by changing up a finger exercise. As we all know, that is a DAMN GOOD EXERCISE as it hurts like hell after a while playing it. The sliding up and down the neck is most probably Timmy playing the same notes in just a different fashion. My friend has the UTTAD SHeet Music and played what it said on the sheet music(not tab)....and he played it going up and down the neck. It's easier for "normal" musicians...not DMB musicians. Hope that helps....peaceDmb41ants wrote:he doesnt move when he plays it now and from storytellers and so on, but if u listen to UTTAD, you do hear his strings squeaking, implying that he did use to move up and down the fretboard, he doesnt now but he used to
