if you download this it might make it clearer. Its only a trial and only works for 30 minutes per day.

If you just play the guitar by tab and play then this doesnt mean anything to you. If you want to be able to read music and know about music theory and why things with music are the way they are then one thing you need is a way to keep time. Thats what a Metronome does. If you want to use a Metronome you need to know beats per minute and some of the more advanced ones you also need the time signature. Alot of people play guitar by ear without learning anything about the theory behind it. Im not trying to say that thats bad or that you suck at guitar if you dont know music theory but I find it interesting. DMB actually made me interested in learning the theory behind the music and the very little theory I know made me respect them more. Alot of it is to complicated for me but my girlfriend is a music major and when she starts talking about the theories she loses me really fast.

I know alot about keeping time and time signatures and all that jazz. I played drums for 12 years. I just don't know why knowing the beats per minute is of any relevance. We aren't site reading this music. If you can keep time better by knowing how many beats per minute vs. tapping your foot, more power to you

Tapping the foot and a metronome are pretty much the same thing. (They keep time) But,you have to first get that beat and first start off at the right tempo in order to use your foot later on. Also, the met. is always right, your foot will fluccouate from tempo to tempo. If you actually sit down and play with a met, its a lot harder done than said.Easy E wrote:I know alot about keeping time and time signatures and all that jazz. I played drums for 12 years.
