Bartender

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Bartender

Unread post by SgtM » Thu Oct 30, 2003 10:31 pm

Ok, this has probably come up before, but I'm going to post it anyway.. does anyone have a tab for Bartender from Storytellers? I just fell in love with this song.. Ok, so maybe I'm a little behind, but I'm just starting to get in to Dave... I'm not worthy, I know..

I think what your talking about is the strumming in Storytellers ( I like it too). Same tabs, but rather than stumming, alternate picking between the E (tuned to D) and A strings to get that cool constant drum sound. Hope that helps.

I have a tab for this. It basicly fits aboth of the early Bartenders (the story tellers style and Reconcile Our Differences). Anyways, here's the tab:

Code: Select all

--------------------------------
 Reconcile Our Differences - DM
--------------------------------
*Drop D tuning*
(basicly an early Bartender that normaly seged into DDTW)

Main part

**This is really an upstroke/downstroke on both strings. Although
it focuses on the string listed. The first strum focuses on both
strings so you get the hammer-on sound but still keep in rythm. The
strokes will be listed with ^ for up, v for down.**

...v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^
e----------------------- ----------------------------------------------
B----------------------- ----------------------------------------------
G----------------------- ----------------------------------------------
D----------------------- ----------------------------------------------
A--3h5---5---5---5---5-- ---5---5---5---5------------------------------
D--0-------0---0---0---- -4---4---5---5--------------------------------

Chorus
*This eventualy appeared right around when it became Bartender*
e----------------------------------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------------------------------
G--4-------------------------------------------------------------------
D--4-------(5)---------------------------------------------------------
A--2--------5----------------------------------------------------------

Very kewl.. that's the tab I have from jkanter also. I should have been more specific.. What I'm looking for is the jam part at about the 2:25 marker in storytellers.. I'm looking for a tab that has those variations (hammer on's, pull off's, and slides) included with it.

I don't know of any jam that they did. They really just did that. I'll check out the video tomorrow.

You may be thinking of that weird stuff that timmy does.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Dude, i don't beleive you're talking about Bartender if it's 2:25 in story tellers.. that is when it changes into Don't Drink The Water

Is it the part where he sings: "Come now come now can you not see" ? if so, then it's DDTW not Bartender

I wasn't trying to make you feel bad, just wanted to state clearly that it was Bartender into DDTW

Definitely, it's all good! I knew it was Bartender into DDTW, but just didn't know the songs well enough to make the distinction. Only really been getting into Dave heavily for the last couple of months. REALLY diggin what I've heard so far though. Can't seem to get enough.

I try and play when I can, but I'm severely hindered by living with the in-laws right now, and that I have 2 kids (wifey is due in Jan with the 3rd). There's about 9 of us living here right now, including my 2 1/2 yr old neice (small house too), and I don't get the chance to play until after the kids go to bed. But, then I have to play softly so I don't wake them up, or disturb anyone else. Can't just jam and let it all come out and practice like I need to.

I've got a Yamaha 6 string my parents bought for me last Christmas. Before that, it was my Aunt's. It was made in 72, or 73 from what they understand. Don't even know a model number. Pretty good for me right now. It's got a beautiful sound for being just a Yamaha. Playing on Martin strings that need replaced at this moment. My next set will be D'addario.

What does everyone like for pics? I have a couple that I use right now.. a .36, and a .48 mm.. For soem reason, it feels like I have more control with those as compared to some of the thicker ones.

Well, I like using my fingers than using a pick. If I get a pick, I like the hard thick ones, like timmy uses, normaly 1.0. I also like the samll Jazz III picks that dunlop has. Also, don't get D'Addario. Martin and Dean Markley are better by far. People say D'Addario are great, but these guys don't try Dean Markley Signature Series.

I use Dunlop Tortex .60mm picks, they are the same kind/size/brand dave uses and i find them to be perfect in thickness

I agree, I bought a pack a few weeks ago, and although I'm a non-pick user by trade whenever I pick one up it has to be one of those. I can't even tell you how many Fender picks (came with my first guitar) that I broke playing Halloween/Watchtower/Warehouse, etc. Plus I like the turtles. ;)
