So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Whats up

Unread post by mangina205 » Tue Oct 21, 2003 5:47 am

Does anyone else feel that for the most part, the difficulty of Dave's songs isn't what it used to be? For instance the early stuff, the Stone, Rhyme and Reason, Live intro to OSW, BOWA, Trippin Billies, #41, and his big stretches and stuff isn't really there on this later stuff, Busted Stuff, SOme Devil etc. I am saying for the most part here so don't get all crazy. Just curious.

yeah it seems like that. i like playing the older stuff better, but now it seems like Dave is concentrating more on lyrics that whoop-ass guitar, which is good, just different

I wish he would get back to that older style a little more, now he uses alot more open positoin chords, rather than his weird, well you know his chords!

i hear yall. his focus now is on song writing. now, he had great lyrics for alot of his older stuff, but his newer stuff is pretty much a lyrics showcase. old=greater guitar, new= greater lyrics.
i know there are some exceptions (seekup, you never know etc) but this is a general trend which im pretty much ok w/ i guess. what would you say? exactly :)

i agree its ok btu his albums lack any hard jamming liek they do in the old days, anyone agree? no more liek ants or wwys or anythign in the jamming matter, i just think the lyrics is goin olmost too far with dave to where the band is not as hype as they once were

I'll say it. His guitar riffs suck now. I havent bought an album since BTCS.

I didnt say I hadnt heard them. I just havent thought they were worth the money to be honest. I have over 80 live shows (though most of them are pre 1999,) so I wouldnt exactly say I'm missing out on anything.

Some Devil, Gravedigger, Baby, Stay or Leave. That's about all I like from that album. Which is unfortunately not a lot for a whole album. I still disagree in general about his song writing though. A lot of my distaste for his studio work is in the production. Even Lillywhite didn't know when to leave it alone. I think most studio albums are over-done these days. The best done DMB album production-wise is a tie between BTCS and LS. Thats my opinion anyway.

I loved some devil, and I love busted stuff, and yes, I love everyday. Also, dmb albums have such a different sound than live. Both are great, I think. I also love the song Grey Blue Eyes, simple, experimental, and I love it. I say his writing is as good as it used to be, he just has a different style. Also, the band still plays the old stuff as well as the new stuff. I love them as much as I did when I finally noticed the band in 1996.

So, I love old dmb, and I love new dmb.
