Satellite

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Satellite

Unread post by dmb_josh » Tue Mar 14, 2006 4:58 pm

Ok, let me state up front I am a slow learner when it comes to playing guitar. I have had major problems learning how to play these two sections. I have watched the videos and studied the tab, but just can't seem to figure out what to do. If anyone is willing to walk me through this, I would greatly appreciate it. I am left handed, don't know if that plays a factor.

"Winter's cold..."
*See finger chart for this section
E:--------------------------
B:--------------------------
G:----6/8---8--8----8----8--
D:----6/8---6--6----6----6--
A:---------------4---x----6--
E:-4-----------------6------

"Rest high above..."
First and last chord are hit once and the rest are strummed last time around, the last chord isn't played
E:----4----3------------
B:----4----4------------
G:-8--5----5----6----6--
D:-8--6----5----6----6--
A:-6--6----3----4----4--
E:-6--4-----------------

Really I want to play and sing the After Her version of this song. Is it identical music wise?

Thanks

try and catch the satellite in storytellers. its only a few seconds but it will help.

As for the "rest high" the first Chord just hit once, then the rest of that part is pretty straight forward.

I too had a lot of trouble with both those sections of satellite. I love daves songs because they all loop together. So to get to the first section your having problems with:

Code: Select all

"Winter's cold..."
*See finger chart for this section
E:--------------------------
B:--------------------------
G:----6/8---8--8----8----8--
D:----6/8---6--6----6----6--
A:---------------4---x----6--
E:-4-----------------6------

You'll be playing the verse(picking part) and you end it on Ab(4th fret). From there your pointer should be on the (4) fret and you want to hit the two (6)'s with your ring and pinky. Slide the (6)'s up to the (8)'s with your ring and pinky and once you get to the (8)'s, drop your ring finger and fret the (6)th string on the D. So your holding the (6) and (8) strings with your pointer and pinky. From there you want to stretch your hand out like the verse is played and put your pointer on the(4)th fret (4)th string and then lay your middle finger on the (6)th fret. Your pinky should never leave the (8)th fret. Now your struming and using the (4) as the bass and it switches to the E string (6)th fret and then to the A string (6)th fret, the whole time your pinky is still on the (8)th fret. Once you get to the 668 part you go back to the (4)th fret A string with your pointer and do it all over again.

Now, that's the chorus. to get to the bridge:

Code: Select all

"Rest high above..."
First and last chord are hit once and the rest are strummed last time around, the last chord isn't played
E:----4----3------------
B:----4----4------------
G:-8--5----5----6----6--
D:-8--6----5----6----6--
A:-6--6----3----4----4--
E:-6--4-----------------

You will be playing the verse again(picking part) and to get into the bridge you end the verse and do that run up thing:

Transition
E:------------------------------------------------
B:------------------------------------------------
G:------------------------------------------------
D:---------8-------6-------5----------------------
A:-----6-------4-----------------------4---6---8--
E:-4-------------------8-------6---8--------------
1 2 4 1 2 4 1 2 4 1 2 4

Code: Select all

Now dave is singing, "Rest high above the cloud.....", you want to hit that 6688 chord right as your singing "Rest" and then hit the Ab chord, 4665 when you sing "high". When you sing "cloud" you should be fretting the x3554 chord.

Ok, i hope that helps you out. Just read everything i said really slowly while listening to the song and looking at the tab. Maybe someone can do a vid for you, i don't have a camera. Anyway, good luck.

Uh... the song is in 3/4 Time measure... correct? Maybe thats why I'm having trouble.
