n00b with satellite ?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

n00b with satellite ?

Unread post by khilgers » Tue Mar 14, 2006 10:09 pm

I just started playing about 6 months ago and I can play the intro part of satellite, but I'm having problems. I like to get the intro down first then learn the rest of the song.

My problem is that I use all 4 fingers to play it and my hand cramps up big time. I was listening to the cd version and it sounds like he slides around a lot. Any better ways of playing it without as much cramping?

Thats cause they doubled the guitars on the album version, tim playing the sliding part and dave playing the stretchy part. It helps if you use a capo go high up and get less of a stretch, and then move it down to nothing as you get more comfortable.

Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead

Code: Select all

E:------------------------------------------------
B:------------------------------------------------
G:------------------------------------------------
D:---------8-------6-------5---------------6------
A:-----6-------4-------------------8---4----------
E:-4-------------------8-------6---------------8--
   1 2 4 1 2 4 1 2 4 1 2 4
I would recommend playing it with those fingerings. (the 1, 2,4's at the bottom). taken from the tab on the main page.

I've always played Satellite Tim's way...it just seems easier to me.

If you just want to play it, go for an easier tab. If you're looking to improve your guitar skills, I would say these stretchs are crucial. :)

Just practice practice practice. It took me a while to get this song down perfectly and without cramping at all. But if you keep working at it, like playing it constantly, then you should get it soon enough. And eventually all of Dave's stretches will be nothing for you.

I can play it with the stretch, it's just after a while my hand cramps up. But I guess I just need to get used to that huh :)

Heres how I play it, it's not perfect but I'm still fairly new to this

Seems ok to me.

For now your fingers seem a little tense. That will disappear as they get used to the stretch.

When I started doind these stretches my hand also hurt, so that's pretty normal. HOWEVER, don't let the pain grow to much! You might have some muscle issue there... Practice the stretch for a while (till it hurts a little bit), and then relax with something else. After you can get back to Satellite and keep changing.

And remember: never start stretching without a little warm up!

Hope this helps.
