Playing Dancing Nancies Accurately?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

if you listen to the earlier solo shows he plays it with a little different style... he starts strumming the open strings a little earlier than the album version, and definitely hits all 3- good example is the transition from the penis song into nancies on the 9-11-92 show, you can hear what i mean there

lately its a little crisper and i dont think he hits the G

Yeah. I am watching the side show at the Gorge, and he plays it with a different rythm. I prefer the older way than that new one.

i agree, Nancies is tops. though number's 2, 3, 4, 5 wold be difficult to differrentiate.

i have some wicked Live Dave & Tim shows of Nancies, 3.29.03 in particular... with the "drunken bar patron" -- long story intro.

AWESOME !!!

one question: why is the song entitled: DANCING NANCIES?

(always wondered, never asked
god knows it weighs on me...as heavy as stone and a bone-chilling cold

wewallac wrote:Hi there,
My apologies if this has already been discussed, but I can't find my question anywhere else on this board.

There's an amazing live (all acoustic) version of Dancing Nancies out there that I'm trying to play properly. I can play all the notes, but there's a slapping technique that Dave uses here (once every 4 beats I think). There's a bit of reverb or echo, so it accentuates this a little more. Does anyone know what he's doing here?

I'm having problems viewing the avi videos on this site, but the audio comes through on them. I don't hear the slapping I'm talking about on the example on this site. Any other videos anyone can recommend to figure this out?

Thanks a bunch!

One more thing - if the guy who owns the site "Cricket's Cave" is reading this, can you put your cover of Dancing Nancies back on? From what I've been reading it's very good. I'd like to hear it.
You just gotta lift your fretting fingers slightly so that you can mute the strings when you give it that rhythm slap....
It's hard to explain when to mute them so here's a clip..
I slowed it down for ya, hope it helps..

There are a lot of interpretations on this, but a dancing nancy is a slang for a transvestite prostitute. Dave was riding a taxi through Spain when he saw some.
